Electronic Systems Technology

Be a technician in a central field. Computers, test equipment, robots, circuit boards, displays and medical machines—all these and more form the working system of electronic technology that powers our daily lives.

The industry is asking for skilled technicians to design, manufacture and support this technology. Our 18 month program begins by teaching you electronics at the component level. Next, expect to move beyond the basics as you learn surface mount soldering, microprocessors, motor controls, programmable logic controllers, circuit board design, troubleshooting, robotics and more!

This program has high job placement. We prepare our students by providing active, hands-on training in our new Electronic Systems labs. We also have articulation agreements with universities, so our students can transfer credits seamlessly into a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or Manufacturing Engineering Technology!

Just six months after graduation, Electronics/Robotics grads earn great salaries!

Biomedical Technician – Third-Year Option

Lake Area Technical College has recognized a distinct demand for skilled technicians in the biomedical equipment field. As the healthcare field has become more advanced and technical, there is a considerable need for technicians who are trained to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair biomedical equipment issues in an efficient manner. In facilities such as small clinics or hospitals, that one piece of medical equipment that fails could be the only one of its kind in the facility. For the health and safety of patients, highly trained biomedical technicians are needed to make the repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible.

To help meet this demand, Lake Area Tech offers a third-year Biomedical Technician option for Lake Area Tech graduates of all healthcare programs. For the healthcare program graduates, the 11-month option covers two semesters and one summer session, in which an internship will be completed. Healthcare graduates will receive an additional biomedical endorsement. For Robotics and Electronic Systems Technology program graduates, only one additional semester is required. Graduates will be proficient in installing biomedical equipment, completing testing steps to ensure it operates properly, performing preventative maintenance procedures, and repairing the equipment if it fails.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, it is projected that placement in this field will grow through 2026 due to our aging population and retiring technicians. Biomedical Technicians work in clinics, hospitals, equipment manufacturing facilities, and for companies that rent/lease the biomedical equipment.
