Educare Meal Program

Infants

10 23 3

Baby food and formula/breast milk will be provided by the parents of infants. Parents need to provide enough formula/breast milk for the hours the infant is at the center. Please bring unopened containers of formula. Plastic bottles or bottles with liners will be used. Only unopened containers of baby food brought from home will be used. It is the parent’s responsibility to see that the formula and food brought from home is placed in the cabinets provided.

All bottles and caps must be clearly marked with the child’s name.

No baby of any age will be put in bed with a bottle. Bottles will not remain unrefrigerated for more than 45 minutes.

Breast milk/formula left at the end of a feeding will be discarded. To avoid contamination of the food, babies will not be fed directly from food jars. Infants will be fed according to their own schedules.

Toddlers and Other Children

Introduction of table food for each child will be determined by the parent or guardian. Meals and snacks will be provided by the Nutrition and Food Services Department in accordance with guidelines set by the state of South Dakota. The guidelines ensure that a balanced meal offering foods from the pyramid food groups is available to the children. Each meal supplies at least one-third of the child’s daily nutritional needs. Children need to be eating daycare food when they transition into Room 3.

Meals are not included in the price of tuition. Parents wishing to apply for free/reduced rates may complete an application form available in the office. The free/reduced rates will be effective when eligibility is determined. Parents must complete and return the food reimbursement form, if applicable.

Parents/guardians requesting special diets for their child(ren) will need to provide it. It will be the parent’s responsibility to see the meals or snack are properly stored in the kitchen.

Children with food allergies will be given a substitute provided by the day-care. If your child is allergic to milk, a doctors’ slip is required to be kept on file indicating the allergy in accordance with Child Nutrition Program.

Meals and snacks are served at approximately the following times:
