Community Health Worker – Online Certificate

Are you interested in a medical career that doesn’t follow a traditional route?

Lake Area Tech offers an opportunity for just that in our online Community Health Worker certificate program.  After completing the program, graduates will be equipped with the necessary skills to be employed in medical positions such as a community health adviser, social and human services assistant/specialist, community health advocate, eldercare advocate, addictions counselor assistant, and casework specialist.

A Community Health Worker is a frontline public health worker who is a trusted member of and/or has an unusually close understanding of the community served. This relationship enables the worker to serve as a liaison/link/intermediary between health/social services and the community to facilitate access to services and improve the quality and cultural competence of service delivery.

Students may enroll in the online certificate program in the fall or spring. Both full-time and part-time options are available.

Although it is not a requirement of admission to LATC, a background check will be required for certification with the state of South Dakota, at the student’s expense.
