Be a Protector

Today’s information networks are under constant threat from theft, fraud, and sophisticated viruses. As businesses make large investments in innovative technology, they are depending more and more on specialists to protect the safety and integrity of their systems and information. This option combines network administration fundamentals with cybersecurity concepts. Our program focuses on implementing, administering, and securing networks and computer systems.

What can I expect?

Our Networking and Cyber Security option allows you to set up and secure networks, and then perform actual network intrusions in order to anticipate and defend against future threats. You will also learn how to install and manage information security systems, as well as how to gather and analyze data for computer crime investigation.

Our students’ complete hands-on labs and simulations to prepare for real-world scenarios. Our labs are constantly changed to meet the demands of today’s threats. Students will learn the newest and most relevant networking and security technologies that apply to our area. Upon graduation, you will be ready to use your knowledge and skills in the workforce.

You can expect to gain maximum experience in networking and security. The curriculum contains core classes in computer hardware, Windows and Linux operating systems, networking, security, programming, and database fundamentals. We offer the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) and the advanced CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) certifications, which provide an enormous advantage in the networking field. We also offer courses covering the following IT certifications: CompTIA A+, Security+, Network+, and PenTest+; Red Hat Enterprise Linux; and Certified Ethical Hacker. Students may have the opportunity to earn college credit by completing internship hours with local businesses.

All classes in the program can be taken on campus or via hybrid learning (online with on-campus labs and exams). We continue to evolve our program to meet the ever-changing demands of our industry.

Our graduates also have the option to take advantage of articulation agreements with universities, which means when a student graduates with a two-year Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Information Systems at Lake Area Tech, they can transition to the university with two years of study that will count towards their Bachelor’s Degree!
