Position: Veterinary Assistant, Full Time

Job Description Summary: The Veterinary Assistant is a key member of the clinic team who supports and assists the veterinarians, ensuring the safety of patients, clients and other associates, and the continuity of quality veterinary care.

 

Preferred Education/Licenses: Certificate of completion from a NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant program or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. High school diploma or equivalent required.

 

Experience Desired: Open to New Grads and Experienced Veterinary Assistants. Must be client-focused and have demonstrated capability to work with large and companion animals. Special consideration will be given to candidates with a strong interest in large animal medicine.

Compensation: Based on Experience, from $15.50 per hour

Benefits: Vision, dental, and life insurance (100% paid by company), Health insurance (includes monthly stipend and is effective on the first day of the month after start date), Health Savings Account (company individual/family contribution), AFLAC, 401k with 3% company match, 2 weeks vacation (increasing to 3 weeks at 5th year of service), and 6 days of personal time per year.

Species Percentages: 70 Beef, 30 Companion Animals with some equine and small ruminant mixed in.

Facilities: Our haul-in facility and small animal clinic were built in 2019 and are located on Highway 20 across from the Bramble Park Zoo in Watertown, South Dakota. We have an excellent haul-in facility that includes:

-Indoor hydraulic Silencer tilt-chute with scale

-Large holding pens

-Tub and alleyway

-Separate OB calving pen

-IV calf crates

-Portable hydraulic

-Manual Foremost calf chute

-Easi-scan ultrasound equipment for pregnancy testing cattle and an oviScan ultrasound for sheep

Our small animal clinic area includes:

-Exam room, pharmacy, treatment, and lab area

-Surgery suite with gas anesthesia

-Six kennels for surgery patients

-Dentalaire dental machine

-Idexx blood chemistry and CBC machines

-Digital x-ray with option to use off site (portable)

Our Team: Across our locations in Watertown, Miller, and Aberdeen, South Dakota our team includes 3 full-time veterinarians, 6 veterinary technicians, animal health sales associates, operations, and marketing support staff.

Practice Area: Opportunities are available at our Watertown, SD location.

Watertown, SD  (population: 22,500) is located in northeastern South Dakota, situated on the Big Sioux River and two major lakes, Pelican Lake and Lake Kampeska. The area supports an array of year-round outdoor activities and a climate with four distinct seasons.  The city offers many activities for families including a new community wellness and family aquatic center, zoo, newly remodeled library, sports complexes for softball, baseball, football, lacrosse, track, and soccer, two golf courses, and over 30 miles of walking and biking trails. There are a host of restaurants and entertainment options including the Terry Redlin Art Museum, Joy Ranch, the Goss Opera House, the newly remodeled Derby Downs Rodeo Arena, as well as several community event venues. Education plays an important role in Watertown with numerous daycare centers as well as an award-winning education system, both public, private, and post secondary. Centrally located: Watertown is 1½ hours from Sioux Falls, SD (population: 180k), and less than 4 hours from Minneapolis, MN. Watertown Regional Airport, which has recently undergone significant renovations, has direct service to and from Chicago O’Hare and Denver International airports daily.
