WATERTOWN, SD – Lake Area Technical College Aviation Maintenance Technology Instructor Greg Klein was named the South Dakota Technician of the Year by the Federal Aviation Administration at a presentation held at LATI’s Aviation Maintenance department yesterday. FAA Safety Team Program Manager Jeff Boe said Klein was nominated for the award by his peers and was ultimately selected for the award by a regional Federal Aviation Administration board in Chicago, Illinois.

Klein received his Airframe and Powerplant certificate from Lake Area Technical College in 1977. He entered the United States Air force as an aircraft maintenance technician. While in the Air Force, he maintained F-4D Phantoms, Lockheed T-33 Shooting Stars, and F-15A Eagles. He also maintained aero club Cessna 172s and taught an airframe and powerplant course on a part-time basis.
