WATERTOWN, SD – Students enrolled in the Business program at Lake Area Technical College in Watertown have a new scholarship opportunity. The Dorothy Tesch Business Scholarship was established at Lake Area Tech by Dorothy’s family and friends in September 2021 to honor her life, her support for this community, and her lifelong pursuit of learning. This scholarship will be awarded annually to a student enrolled in the Business program at Lake Area Technical College.

Dorothy was born and raised in Watertown. After graduating from Watertown High School, she attended Stephen’s College in Columbus, Missouri, earning an Associate’s Degree. She returned to Watertown and married Dennis Tesch in 1957. Together they raised four children on the family farm. Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper for several different businesses in Watertown, as well as keeping the books for the family farm. Dorothy never gave up on her goal to finish her college education and obtain a Bachelor’s degree. After her children were grown and she retired from her career, she pursued her life-long educational goal, obtaining her Bachelor’s degree from Mount Marty College in Watertown.

Dorothy was an accomplished musician and an avid gardener. She supported the creative arts and several different organizations, many dedicated to the humane treatment of animals and protecting and improving the environment. Dorothy was actively engaged in volunteering her and time and talents for many years. She was a longtime volunteer with the Arrow Education Foundation, the annual Farm Show in Watertown, and for Jenkins Living Center.
