Lake Area Tech Students Earn High Marks at National SkillsUSA Competition

 WATERTOWN, SD – Four students from Lake Area Technical College placed in their respective categories at the SkillsUSA National Championships in Atlanta, GA. Students participated in one of 108 competitions in career and technical fields. It is the largest skill competition of its kind in the world.

Students placing in the national competition from Lake Area Tech are Cade Nofziger (Sioux Falls, SD) Automotive Service Technology, 10th place; Devan Appel (Browns Valley, MN) Criminal Justice, 2nd place; Cody Simon (Gettysburg, SD) Diesel Equipment Technology, 16th place; and Isaac Lehman (Pierre, SD) Welding, 24th place.

“We are very proud of Lake Area Technical College’s SkillsUSA accomplishments,” said Katie Paulson, South Dakota State SkillsUSA Director. “These students are true champions in their dedication to excellence in their trade and their leadership skills.

The SkillsUSA Championships took place June 20-24, 2022, as part of the SkillsUSA 58th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC), a showcase of career and technical education students. During the week, more than 5,200 outstanding career and technical education students participated.

SkillsUSA’s serves more than 340,000 students and instructors in middle schools, high schools and college/postsecondary institutions in every state and three U.S. territories. SkillsUSA has served more than 14 million members since its founding in 1965. SkillsUSA programming covers 130 trade, technical and skilled service occupations, and is recognized by the U.S. departments of Education and Labor as integral to career and technical education and a successful model of employer-driven youth development training.
