Julie joined the Lake Area Tech team in February 2022 as an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle instructor for the Professional Fixed Wing Pilot program. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Geography and Geographic System Sciences from SDSU and is currently finishing her Master’s Degree in Geospatial Sciences with a specialization in Geographic Information System Sciences. She also holds an NREMT license. Julie’s educational background began with Wildland Fire in Rapid City in 2011. In 2019, she began her research in Custer State Park regarding a National Natural Historic Landmark tree. She worked with the state Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources through a federal grant for the Trees Outside Forests Image-based Inventory in 2020.  Since 2019, she has taught Weather and Climate labs and currently hold the Head TA position for the course. Julie is married and has two sons. They live in White, South Dakota, and they enjoy camping, traveling, outside activities, and adventure!
