How long does it take to complete the Financial Services program at Lake Area Tech?

The Financial Services program is designed to be flexible and accessible for students with diverse schedules and responsibilities. The associate degree can be completed in as little as 20 months when taken full time, but many students choose a part-time option to balance work, family, or career transitions.

All students complete the same core coursework during the first year. In the second year, students select one of the three Financial Services options. Some students choose to complete multiple options, which may extend program length depending on course load and prior college credits.

Courses are offered on campus and online, allowing students to create a customized plan that fits their goals. Students are encouraged to meet with a Financial Services instructor to develop a personalized schedule.

Is the Financial Services program a good fit for students with no prior finance experience?

Yes. The Financial Services program is intentionally designed for students with no prior finance or accounting background. Courses begin with foundational concepts and build skills step by step.

At the same time, the program is ideal for students who already have experience in finance or business and want to earn a degree, formalize their skills, advance their careers, or expand their opportunities. This dual approach makes the program accessible, supportive, and valuable for learners at any stage.

What math or coursework background do I need for the Financial Services program?

All Financial Services students complete 180 or 360 internship hours in a professional setting related to their career goals. Internships may be in accounting, banking, lending, insurance, payroll, tax, or other financial services roles.

The program works individually with each student to identify internship placements that align with their interests.
