Diesel ThinkBig Caterpillar (DCAT)
Lake Area Tech’s Diesel ThinkBIG Caterpillar program is a two-year, dealer-sponsored pathway developed in partnership with Butler Machinery Company and Caterpillar. This AED-accredited program combines classroom instruction with paid, on-the-job training at sponsoring dealerships.
Students split their time between campus and the field, building hands-on experience with Caterpillar equipment while learning the systems, tools, and service procedures used in the industry. The program is designed to develop the ability to diagnose, service, and maintain equipment to manufacturer standards.
Participants receive a scholarship and paid internship package starting at $30,000. First-year wages begin at $20 per hour. After completing the program, graduates earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Diesel Technology along with a Caterpillar endorsement. In addition, many have the opportunity to transition into full-time employment with a Butler Machinery dealership.
The program is designed for long-term career growth. As a result, students build the skills needed to adapt as new systems and technologies enter the diesel industry.
