The Cosmetology program at Lake Area Tech prepares you for a career focused on helping people look and feel their best. Over 1,500 hours of training, you’ll build skills across hair, skin, and nail care while learning the fundamentals that support professional success in the industry.

A key part of the program is hands-on experience in the Cosmetology Lab, a fully operational salon on campus. Here, you’ll work directly with clients, applying the latest techniques in cutting, coloring, styling, and design, along with services such as makeup application, manicures, pedicures, and facials. This real-world environment gives you the opportunity to build confidence, refine your technique, and understand the pace and expectations of a working salon.

Throughout the program, you’ll also connect with industry professionals through on-campus events that highlight current trends and practices. Instruction is led by experienced faculty who support skill development at every stage.

Graduates are prepared for careers as stylists, salon managers or owners, educators, product representatives, and more. All students complete the required state board examination, with curriculum aligned to meet licensure requirements in South Dakota.
