Private Education Loans

Private loans are an option, but they shouldn’t be your first move.

Start with federal financial aid. It typically offers better protections and terms. If you still need additional funding, you can apply for a private loan through a lender of your choice. Lake Area Tech doesn’t recommend specific lenders, so take the time to compare options and choose what fits your situation.

Federal regulations require multiple disclosure steps before funds are released. Because of that, the process takes time. Plan ahead, it can take up to four weeks to receive your loan after applying.

Private loan borrowers are also required to complete a Self-Certification form, which is usually provided by your lender.
