Michael Schnetzer – Springfield, SD

Energy Technology – Class of 2011

Why did you choose Lake Area Tech?  Lived in Watertown post military. Program offering looked interesting. With recession going on in 2008, was advised that there’ll always be a demand for electricity regardless of the economy.

Where are you employed today? US Army Corps of Engineers, Gavins Point Dam

When was the last time you visited Lake Area Tech? 2011

What was your favorite thing about Lake Area Tech? At the time, location.

What was the biggest lesson you learned at Lake Area Tech? The importance of networking.

What made you want to continue your education? Ended time in service and was stuck in dead end jobs. Wanted something better.

What advice would you give a current Lake Area Tech student? Keep an open mind and experience new things!

What makes you proud to be an Alumni of Lake Area Tech? Lake Area Tech got me an intership at a Federally owned and operated dam. Because of that, I landed a job where I can continue civil service doing what I love, being a hydro-power mechanic.

What advice can you give to Lake Area Tech students that will be entering the workforce? Don’t fear the unknown. Be open to trying new things. Remember, even though you’re a graduate, your co-workers will teach you your job. School opened the doors, but keeping an open mind to continue to learn will fast track you to success!
