Esports Finals Press Release

May 18, 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lake Area Technical College’s esports team reached a national milestone this month, competing in the National Esports Collegiate Conference Apex Legends Finals in San Antonio after qualifying among the top collegiate teams in the country.

Only 20 colleges and universities nationwide earned spots in the championship event, placing the Lake Area Technical College esports program among the nation’s top collegiate competitors during the 2025 season.

Students Kaian, Garrison and Braydon traveled to Texas on May 17 to compete in the finals, one day after graduating from Lake Area Tech. The three graduates represented the college’s Computer Information Systems, Ag Business and Welding Technology programs.

“These students represent what Lake Area Tech is all about,” the program shared. “Not only did they compete on a national stage, but they also completed their education and are preparing to begin successful careers.”

The weekend began with media day activities, including professional photo sessions and interviews focused on the team’s preparation, teamwork and expectations heading into the competition. Matches officially began May 18, with Lake Area Tech facing several of the nation’s top collegiate esports programs.

The NECC Apex Legends Finals featured schools with players who also compete professionally in esports. Matches were streamed live throughout the event.

The national finals appearance highlights the continued growth of the Lake Area Tech esports program and the opportunities available to students through collegiate esports competition.

The achievement also demonstrates that students at Lake Area Tech can gain hands-on educational experience, compete on a national stage and prepare for careers in a variety of industries, regardless of the college’s size.

Athletes Involved: Kaian Enockson, Bismarck ND; Braydon Alford, Sioux Falls SD; Garrison Steele, Alden MN
