A Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery used in construction, excavation, roadwork, demolition, and site preparation. These operators control equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, and backhoes to move earth, materials, and other objects safely and efficiently. The role requires a strong focus on safety, precision, and equipment maintenance.
· Equipment operation: Operate heavy equipment including excavators, bulldozers, skid steers, front-end loaders, graders, cranes, and compactors
· Follow site plans, blueprints, or verbal instructions to perform tasks such as digging, grading, and loading material
· Control machines to clear and level land, dig trenches, backfill, demolish structures, or move large objects
· Site preparation and earthmoving: Prepare job sites by removing debris, grading surfaces, and creating access paths or foundations
· Excavate for footings, utilities, drainage systems, or roadbeds according to specified depths and dimensions
· Assist in land clearing, slope grading, and road building
· Maintenance and inspection: Perform routine maintenance checks (oil levels, tire pressure, hydraulic systems) and basic servicing tasks
· Keep machines clean and well-maintained to avoid downtime and extend equipment life; document usage, maintenance logs, and repair needs accurately
· Team collaboration: Work closely with site supervisors, project managers, surveyors, and other crew members to complete tasks on schedule
