South Dakota State University (SDSU) is actively seeking a Microbiologist to join our team! This position will assist the Molecular Diagnostic section of the Animal Disease Research & Diagnostic Laboratory (ADRDL) at SDSU. The lab handles animal samples to look for the presence or absence of potentially infectious agents/diseases. We are an AAVLD accredited lab that specializes in high-throughput PCR techniques for state and federal animal movement, surveillance, and diagnostics. The Molecular Diagnostic section is often the lab used for first detection of infectious diseases in animals and is called into action for foreign animal disease (FAD) investigations. 

Job Responsibilities:  To assist with the daily duties including all technical duties related to determine and identify the presence and type of known or unknown pathogenic organisms.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of: 

·         Basic principles and practices of microbiology and general laboratory techniques

·         Molecular tests

·         PROIV and Sandi LIMS systems (preferred)

Skill & Ability to:

·         Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

·         Problem-solve

·         Follow standard operating procedure (SOP) protocols

·         Work safely with laboratory chemicals, materials and specimens

·         Practice strong attention to detail

·         Work independently and as part of a team

·         Prioritize work to meet competing deadlines
