Truck and Trailer Mechanic

Job Description:

The Truck & Trailer Mechanic will perform repair work and maintenance for trucks and other motor vehicles in the company’s fleet. Responsible for performing preventative maintenance and general repairs on tractor and trailer units to Company and DOT standards, as well as, inventory controls and processing order paperwork.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintains vehicles, which may include a company’s fleet of trucks, tractor/trailers, and other motor vehicles.
  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups.
  • Performs tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function.
  • Identifies mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
  • Examines critical parts and systems using a standard checklist.
  • Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
  • Visits job sites to inspect and repair vehicles.
  • Test drives vehicle to confirm safe and proper operation.
  • Abide by all Company policies and safety rules and assist in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and take appropriate actions, recommend process changes, and initiate improvements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities and Qualifications include:

  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair.
  • Excellent mechanical repair skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read service and repair manuals.
  • Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and the ability to make logical decisions in support of business demands.
  • Use effective time management techniques and demonstrate the ability to prioritize and multi task without negatively impacting performance or results.
  • Must be able to effectively and accurately complete detailed work with a sense of urgency; always keeping safety at the forefront and demonstrating safe operating procedures.
  • Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform heavy physical work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in auto repair or related field required preferred.
  • Two years of related experience preferred.
  • Commercial driver’s license preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.

Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $20.00 – $30.00 per hour
