The Nursing Manager assumes responsibility for the general health care of people served, including medication administration and follow-up on medical needs identified through medical appointments and reports.  The Nursing Manager is committed to the total health and safety of people supported, recognizing that each person has his/her own needs and wants and is unique. 

Position Details:

Job Knowledge and Comprehension:

A. Responsible for performance of Nursing Department’s responsibilities, timecards, and work performance.

B. Provide oversight and supervision to staff.

C. Responsible to be health resource person for people supported.

D. Responsible for all nursing service standards as required by outside agencies.

E. Responsible for nursing services budget as assigned.

F. Ensure we have an effective process in place for Medical Administration, including medication sheets for various sites, process for changes, additions, etc.  Ensure monitoring and cross-check practices are enforced. 

G. Ensure proper documentation is filed in people supported medical and permanent files following medical appointments of assigned people supported served. 

H. Supervise people supported served for medical/dental and other medical appointments as needed.  Provide medical attention/follow-up as needed.

I. Supervise the ordering and maintenance of all first aid supplies for day program and residential program.

J. Perform annual training for identified staff to include, Blood borne Pathogens, education Administration, First Aid, etc.

K. Provide First Aid, CPR, medical follow-up, and record keeping for possible exposure incidents.

L. Other duties as assigned consistent with exempt functions.

Physical Requirements:

Lifting requirements may exceed 50 lbs. during medical emergency situations and/or behavior support.  Other physical activities include transferring people we support from and to wheelchairs, beds, toilets, and other required job duties.  Job requires bending, stooping, climbing stairs, pushing/pulling, and driving a vehicle frequently. 

Qualifications:

  • Current South Dakota License as a Registered Nurse.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with people with disabilities is preferred.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.  

The Board of Directors of the Human Service Agency shall have the prerogative to hire staff whose qualifications may vary from the above.  This position requires access to Electronic Personal Health Information (EPHI).  Current HSA Policies and Procedures apply.  It is the responsibility of the employee to read, understand, and comply with HSA policies and procedures that apply to protected information and security.  Questions about EPHI and HSA Policies should be directed to the HSA Security Officer.   Services provided by HSA will be welcoming, accessible, integrated, and responsive to the complex needs of people with co-occurring disorders/conditions.
