Daktronics is seeking candidates for summer internships focused on process/automated equipment and component-level product repair. These opportunities are in Brookings, South Dakota. The positions will run from May 2022 through August 2022.

Process/Automated Equipment:

Participate in design of experiments to test various end of arm tools for collaborative robots (Cobot) automation applications.
Assist Fulltime Technicians and Engineers by setting up various Cobot tests, trials, and implementation into manufacturing.
Collaborate with others in the research, selection, and installation of Cobots and industrial devices.
Work with engineering and the safety team to validate that the Cobots are operating safely. 
Evaluate and suggest Cobot opportunities within all of manufacturing.
Assist factories in implementing Cobots into manufacturing processes. 
Assist in changes and updates to existing programs of controller devices (PLCs, Servos, cameras, etc.). Programming will include both offline programming and adjustments on the line. 
Product Repair:

Troubleshoot and repair SMT-placed and through hole-type products with attention to detail and with an emphasis on quality.
Product repair definition includes but not limited to:
Problem solving (troubleshooting), followed by removal and replacement of electronic components on printed circuit boards or module assemblies.
Use manual or automated soldering practices that yield soldering results that meet IPC soldering specifications.
Be willing to learn and practice daily problem solving in the context of finding/developing efficiencies within the daily work we do to yield greater capacity of existing resources, including ourselves.
Learn and use the factory escalation process as expected. 
General Expectations:

Participate in continuous improvement activities for engineering team and manufacturing plants.
Able to work on production equipment by following standardized safety procedures.
Work effectively and efficiently as a team member including maintaining solid communication (written and verbal) in relating to work schedule, open action items, and project updates to engineering team.
Consistently complete quality work in a timely manner.
Be committed to predictable work attendance, including planning time off in advance when possible.
Perform other duties as assigned and needed to meet customer and/or business unit expectations
Academic Requirements:

The ideal candidate must be a full-time student pursuing a 2-year degree in Robotics or Electronic Systems Technology.
Unofficial transcripts or web transcripts must be submitted with application to be considered for this position.

Other Requirements:

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
Computer skills or the ability to learn MS Office, Creo, AutoCAD and Glovia ERP.
Ability to learn various software, industrial hardware control, and programming systems.
Excellent communication skills, ability to communicate from a technical and practical perspective. Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
Good organizational skills, self-motivation.
Ability to successfully participate as a member of a team to work with minimum supervision, ability to learn quickly and effectively exercise discretion and independent judgment.
Physical requirements include the ability to:Possess the manual dexterity to handle very small parts with repetition.
Learn and practice proper/safe lifting habits. Lifting may include loads up to 45 pounds and/or awkward items.
Reach in all directions (potentially in awkward positions).
Work while standing or sitting for extended periods of time.
Work with some odors (solder fumes/paint/coating material, adhesives, etc.).
Distinguish and identify colors (wires, paint, etc.).
Ability to meet all workplace safety requirements, which includes following safety protocols related to COVID-19.
