Job Description: Outpatient Pediatric Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (LPTA)

Position Title: Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (LPTA)

Setting: Outpatient Pediatric Therapy Clinic with potential travel to school-based settings
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Supervising Physical Therapist

Position Summary
The Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (LPTA) provides high-quality, developmentally appropriate physical therapy services to children from infancy through adolescence in an outpatient pediatric setting. In addition to in-clinic care, the role may include providing services in school environments, requiring flexibility and professional conduct in varied settings. Working under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, the LPTA supports individualized treatment plans to help children improve mobility, strength, coordination, and functional independence.

Key Responsibilities
Implement physical therapy treatment plans as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist.

Provide engaging, evidence-based interventions for gross motor delays, neuromuscular disorders, orthopedic conditions, developmental disabilities, sensory-motor challenges, and other pediatric needs.

Deliver compassionate, family-centered care, educating caregivers on home programs and progress.

Assist with documentation of daily notes, progress updates, and billing in accordance with facility and state guidelines.

Monitor patient responses and communicate changes promptly to the supervising Physical Therapist.

Maintain a safe, clean, and child-friendly therapy environment.

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of OTs, SLPs, and other pediatric specialists.

Participate in team meetings, professional development, and quality improvement activities.

Support the clinic’s mission and contribute to a positive and collaborative workplace.

Additional Responsibilities for On-the-Road & School-Based Services:

Travel to local schools as scheduled.
Provide therapy in classroom, gym, or designated school-based areas while adhering to school policies.
Communicate effectively with teachers, school staff, and educational teams.
Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA guidelines.
Ensure timely transportation, reliable scheduling, and proper handling of portable therapy materials/equipment.

Qualifications
Current licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (LPTA) credential in the state of practice.
Pediatric experience preferred; new graduates with strong interest in pediatrics encouraged to apply.
Knowledge of pediatric development, therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular re-education, gait training, and functional mobility strategies.
Strong communication, teamwork, and caregiver-education skills.
Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel to school or community settings as needed.
Ability to adapt treatment approaches to varied environments (clinic, school, home, or community).
