The Field Research Technician will assist the Research Manager in executing field scale research activities at Climate experiment farms. The role will assist in conducting large-scale field trials from protocols developed by the Science Modeling and Agronomic Teams. The successful Field Research Technician will work in operations related to field scale trials through equipment setup, soil sampling, field trial management, data collection, and other activities as directed. The Field Research Technician will also serve as small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) pilot to support its operations. The position will be located at the Climate Research Farm in Wentworth, SD. While on assignment, you will report directly to the Climate Research Farm Manager, who is responsible for coordinating the local field research program. The position will serve as key members that generate high quality product data for our internal customers and will have opportunities to interact with Climate and Bayer Company representatives and farmer cooperators.


•       Training: Complete formal company required modules as well as agricultural modules

•       Pre-Planting through Harvest: assist with UAS platform preparation and maintenance

•       Activities: assembly/disassembly of UAS and related technologies, pilot UAS missions, conduct relevant record-keeping practices, maintenance, and fleet management, support various concurrent farm activities as directed by Farm Manager

•       Utilization of equipment such as planters, combines and hand-held computers for note taking

•       Work with cross-functional teams to execute protocols that support our overall Climate corporation goals and objectives for corn and soybeans in the future. Research will be conducted on multiple fields

•       Collect all necessary data in-season from field trials required by protocol and delivered on timelines assigned

•       Assist in computer related activities that provide support for field-testing activities

•       Comply with HSE (Safety) programs and requirements

•       Assist in other research activities as required

•       Collaborate & partner with other research farm personal at various locations

•       Ability to regularly travel to various locations, which may include overnight stays

Required Skills/Experience:

•       Ability to obtain FAA Part 107 UAS Pilot License prior to employment

•       Ability to operate farm equipment

•       Familiarity with Windows Operating Systems/basic computer skills

•       High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)

•       Valid driver’s license

•       Ability to lift up to 50lbs

•       Ability to pass pre-employment Driver’s Checks

Desired Skills/Experience:

•       Currently holds an FAA Part 107 UAS Pilot License

•       Competency in project tracking and documentation

•       Familiarity with farm activities and environment

•       Prior UAS flight experience

•       Prior agricultural experience or field research experience
