The role of Maintenance Technician Intern is intended to start in Summer 2025.

An internship is a temporary position within 3M. Interns typically work a full-time schedule throughout a 10-12 week assignment. This position is limited to working 899 hours per service credit year.
This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.
The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Maintenance Technician Intern, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Troubleshoot/Repair mechanical equipment and components such as: bearings, bushings, gear boxes, pump seals, clutches, brakes, drive components, valves, motors and couplings.
- Troubleshoot/Adjust mechanical equipment such as: hydraulic and pneumatic machinery and equipment, variable speed power transmission systems, conveyors, spraying systems and extruders.
- Troubleshoot control valves, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and pumps.
- Welding on structures
- Maintaining a safe work environment and perform duties safely.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:
- Currently pursuing an Associate’s degree from an accredited institution
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Current cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
- Completed at minimum freshman year (2 semesters) by the start of the internship
- Previously completed an internship/co-op with 3M or another manufacturing company
- Intermediate (graphs, sorting data, basic formulas) proficiency with MS Excel
- Experience working with cross-functional teams
- Intermediate (hyperlinks, animation, org charts) proficiency with MS PowerPoint
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
Work Location: Aberdeen, South Dakota
Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
