Livestock Production and Management

The Livestock Production and Management program at Lake Area Technical College prepares students for careers in animal agriculture by combining scientific knowledge, hands-on training, and business management skills. This comprehensive program focuses on every aspect of modern livestock production—from animal health and genetics to nutrition, marketing, and farm financial management.

Students learn to manage cattle, swine, sheep, and dairy operations using the latest technology and best practices. Courses cover animal health and disease prevention, livestock breeding, nutrition and feeding, cow-calf and feedlot management, and precision livestock technology. Business-focused classes such as ag accounting, farm finance, marketing, and ag law and compliance provide the foundation for effective decision-making and leadership in the industry.

Practical, real-world experience is built into the curriculum through supervised occupational training, where students work directly with producers and ag businesses. This applied learning approach helps graduates build the technical expertise and confidence needed to step into the workforce immediately after graduation.

Graduates of the Livestock Production and Management program are prepared for careers as livestock managers, feedlot supervisors, animal health technicians, farm or ranch managers, livestock nutrition specialists, and ag sales professionals. Many also continue their education through transfer pathways to four-year universities.
