Kimberly Avila Rivas joined the Lake Area Technical College team in October 2025 as a Surgical Technology Clinical Adjunct Instructor. She earned her Associate in Health Science degree in Surgical Technology from Southeast Technical College in Sioux Falls. Kimberly has five years of experience working at Sanford USD Medical Center as a cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgical technician.

Outside of work, Kimberly enjoys traveling and exploring new experiences—from food to cultures and customs. She also loves reading, spending time with family and friends, lighting scented candles, and watching the latest movies.
