Application Process

Application to the PTA program involves a three-step process:

Step One:

Complete the application for admission to Lake Area Technical Institute. This should include a submission of official high school transcript and any previous college transcripts.

If you have not taken the ACT or have an ACT composite less than 20, arrange to take the CNET offered at the LATI Admissions Office, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  A $25.00 test fee is payable on the day of the test.  This test is computer-based and takes approximately three hours.  Appointments can be made by calling the Admissions office at 1-800-657-4344 or (605) 882-5284.

A study guide is available at the admissions office to help you prepare for the CNET. We will loan the guide to you for a deposit of $25.00. The deposit will be used to cover the cost of the test when the guide is returned in good condition.

Note:  In order to be competitive in the application process, a student should have achieved one of the following scores:
     - high school or college GPA of a 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale)
     - ACT score of 20 or above
     - CNET exam percentile rank of 60 or above

If you have not achieved one of these scores, you may still apply for the program.  Achievement of these standards does not guarantee admission into the program.

Step Two:

Please visit the following web site: http://sweb.lakeareatech.edu/pta/eval/ .  The web pages will allow you to learn what physical therapy is, who a physical therapist assistant is and how these para-professionals interact with patients.  After reading the web pages and viewing the video files, you will be directed to answer a few short questions. This information will be e-mailed to the PTA department head. Whenever possible, students are encouraged to visit a physical therapy department to observe.

Step Three:

After completing Steps One and Two, the Physical Therapist Assistant Program will contact you to visit the campus, tour the PTA department and meet with the faculty for a personal interview.  If possible, the faculty will arrange a time that will allow you to participate in the classroom with current students.

Application Deadline:

Applications to the program will be accepted until the maximum enrollment of 24 students has been met.  Please submit the application to Lake Area, official high school and college transcripts, CNET/ACT exam scores to the admission assistant.  It is your responsibility to ensure that this information is received by LATI.  The class will be filled on a first come first serve basis for all qualified applicants.
