Application PTA

Admission to the Physical Therapist Assistant program is highly competitive since this is the only program in South Dakota. Class size will be limited to 24 students per year. Individuals interested in the PTA program should have a strong background in the biological sciences and enjoy working with people. Potential students should be physically fit as the demands in this field require moderate to heavy lifting. Applicants should be aware that this will be a highly technical and academically intense curriculum.

A minimum of a 2.0 grade point average, or 80% proficiency will be required throughout the duration of the program. Students not maintaining this level of academic performance will be dismissed from the program.
LATI is an open admissions technical institute, however acceptance into the PTA Program is by selection. The admissions committee reviews and evaluates each application on an impartial basis and meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission into the program.

Application to the PTA Program involves a three-step process.

Physical Therapist Assistant Selection Policy

The PTA faculty will review all completed applications and will calculate the scores of the applicants based on GPA, CNET/ACT exam scores, and written essay questions. An applicants score will be calculated according to the following percentages:

Grade Point Average = 40% of total score
CNET/ACT Average = 40% of total score
Quiz Results = 20% of total score

Students will be notified by mail of their acceptance or denial status. After filling the program, alternate positions will be offered.

If you have any further questions, please e-mail Chris Barrett, PT, M.Ed., Program Director.
