Application to the OTA program will involve:
- Submit a completed application along with the $20 application fee, and official high school transcript or GED certificate, and college transcripts, if applicable.
- Submit ACT scores, if available, or schedule an appointment with Lake Area Tech for the Compass entrance test. These test scores are reviewed to determine reading comprehension aptitude. Any applicant not meeting minimum reading standards will be asked to take or repeat the Compass. There is no fee for the Compass test. The Compass is offered each Monday and Friday, except holidays. Select Saturday appointments are available also. Check with the Admissions Office for dates. Appointments can be made by contact the Admissions Office at 1-800-657-4344 or 605-882-5284.
- Applicants should view these videos which explain the OT profession and submit a writing sample to explain their understanding of the OT profession. It is recommended that applicants further research the profession of OT in order to complete the writing sample.
- Observation of an OT or OTA is recommended, but not required.
- Schedule an appointment to meet with Lake Area Tech OTA faculty to discuss your application file and to tour the facility.
Admission into the program is based on assessment of GPA, ACT/CNET scores, writing sample, experience, and personal visit of staff.
The Occupational Therapy Assistant program has "rolling" enrollment which means completed applications are processed as they are received.
Students are responsible for ensuring their application is complete. Contact the admissions assistant with questions regarding the status of your application files as applications are not processed unless files are complete.
