Course Description

AGR 175W Dairy Science in Technology 3 credits

The on-line course is an introduction to the history and development of the dairy industry as well as selection and management of breeding stock, animal health, housing requirements, dairy processing and marketing strategies. The course will also include a hands-on experience at one of the most modern dairy operations in the region, Midwest Dairy Institute.

The instructor is Clark W. Hanson, PhD.

(All costs are subject to annual adjustments and the following may not reflect the current fees).

This is a 3 credit course. The cost of the course is:

    $    1.00 - state R&M fee per credit hour

    $    3.00 - campus support fee per credit hour

    $  30.00 - online fee per credit hour

A $15.00 application fee is required when an application is submitted.

Computer Equipment Needed

  • A late model computer running Windows XP (Operating System)
  • A high-speed Internet connection (for the high quality multimedia content)
    * Cable Modem
    * DSL Connection
    * Satellite (may be useful in rural areas)

    Dial up modems are not recommended because even in optimal conditions they are too slow to deliver reasonable quality multimedia content. In rural areas often times the connection speed is even slower because of phone line signal quality.
     
  • Windows Media Player is required for streaming video and PowerPoint content.
     
  • If the student has a Mac, it must be running MacOSX or later in order to install the media player.
     
  • CRITICAL TO NOTE

    Students need to have foundational computer skills because the class is online. They MUST be able to configure their personal firewall, browser, media player, and any anti-virus software in order to access the content.
