All Academy Day is a competition that gives students the chance to show off the skills they have learned in the CiscoŽ Networking Academy ProgramŽ and explore career pathways by interacting with IT professionals. Teams of students will participate in the hands-on events listed below.

Join us for a day of friendly skills-based competition, where we will:

  • Allow students to show off their skills by competing in fun, team-oriented skills competitions
  • Introduce students to real-world IT topics
  • Promote interest in IT careers and motivate students to continue their studies
  • Help students explore career pathways by networking with IT professionals
  • Build relationships between Academies and our local IT community
  • Provide a forum for students to interact with other Academy students and local IT professionals

Team Events:

Cable Making:
Teams make patch, crossover, and rollover cables. Cables are judged for craftsmanship and labeling and must pass a wire mapping test.

Quiz Bowl:
Teams compete to answer questions on various IT topics. Points are awarded for each correct answer.

Router and PC Configuration using the NETLAB:
Each team will be given all the information necessary to configure the router interfaces, the NIC cards on the PC's, and static routes on the routers.

Router Configuration and Troubleshooting:
Each team is employed by an ISP. They have been given a work order that directs them to install a home router into the WAN created between the two Cisco routers. They manage the first area of the WAN and must make sure the home computer can get to the second router.

Virtual Computer:
Competing in teams, each contestant assembles a virtual desktop. Points are awarded for each section of the computer that is completed correctly . More detailed information may be found at: www.cisco.com/go/allacademyday

Contestants:
The competition is open to any secondary student. There is no age restriction so this includes students enrolled in high school night classes or alternative high school courses. Students 16 or younger will need to bring a signed parental consent form. Students that have taken or are currently enrolled in Cisco Academy courses are strongly encouraged to compete. We encourage any student with an interest in computer networking to come and compete or observe.
