Competition Begins: 9:00AM

There will be two categories of competition – Discovery and Exploration. The Discovery will be based on objectives in the first two Discovery courses. The Exploration will be based on a combination of objectives found in any/all CCNA courses past and present. Students are also invited to come and observe.
Event 1: Structured Cabling, Part I
Objective: Contestants demonstrate how to make patch cable, crossover cable and rollover cable.
Event 1: Structured Cabling, Part II
Objective: Contestants demonstrate the proper punch-down connection into a patch panel, and a punch-down into a RJ-45 jack.
Event 2: Multiple-Choice Examination
Objective: Contestants demonstrate knowledge of internetworking concepts by correctly answering multiple-choice questions.
Event 3: Network Device Configuration
Objective: Contestants perform tasks related to and including the configuration of network devices. Tasks include defining a range of IP addresses, dividing the network into subnets, configuring the network devices to provide access as required by a given scenario. The devices and scenario will depend on the competition category and will conform to either the Discovery or Exploration curriculum objectives.
Event 4: Network Troubleshooting
Objective: Contestants demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot problems related to network services, applications, connectivity, and access.
Event 5: Network Design
Objective: Contestants design and implement a network using Packet Tracer 4.11. Contestants will be given the design specifications one week prior to the competition date via e-mail. The Packet Tracer file with the completed network design will need to be completed and uploaded by 10:00 AM on the morning of the competition. (Note: please bring the Packet Tracer file on a flash drive or a CD).
More detailed information may be found by following the links to the Event Details Microsoft Word document or the PDF file.
Contestants:
The competition is open to any current secondary student. There is no age restriction so this includes students enrolled in high school night classes or alternative high school courses. Students 16 or younger will need to bring a signed parental consent form. Students that have taken or are currently enrolled in Cisco Academy courses would have an advantage as would students enrolled in any computer networking course. We encourage any student with an interest in computer networking to come and compete or observe. Both categories of competition are intended to be challenging but we are intentionally making the Exploration category the most challenging.
Prizes for the Discovery Catagory will include:
$75 value for first place
$35 value for second place
$15 value for third place
Prizes for the Exploration Catagory will include:
$100 value for first place
$50 value for second place
$25 value for third place
Lunch will be provided and there will be door prizes for all attendees.
Registration:
All students planning to attend this event need to register. Contestants need to register by March 5th to receive the design details one week prior to the competition (see “Event 5…” above). Click on “Entry Form” and complete the form to register.
