Lake Area Technical Institute is tax assisted, not fully funded, by state appropriations. In fact, annual appropriations account for approximately 54% of LATI's budget. The remainder represents proceeds from tuition, fees, federal funds and ancillary programs.
In 1992, LATI formed the Lake Area Technical Institute Foundation, a separate 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to accept tax-deductible private philanthropy.
Establishing an endowed gift enables you to make a lasting impact. The principal amount of the gift remains intact and annually scholarships are awarded from the interest earned. Endowed accounts provide a continual source of support. Generally, $10,000 is needed to create a named endowed account, however endowments can be created with lesser amounts.
The Foundation strives to provide an increased number of scholarships each year. Donors who make annual gifts to the Foundation help make both immediate and future scholarship awards possible. Annual giving provides donor flexibility from year to year. Annual gifts of $1,250 or more, allow donors to "name" a scholarship in that year.
The first established program of giving to the Foundation was the "Seagull Club." The Seagull Club recognizes donors who make a four-year pledge of support to the Foundation. Many donors choose this opportunity because it allows a gift to be made over time.
Memorial and Honorary gifts are a wonderful way to recognize someone who has made a difference in your life. These gifts can be made by cash or a will. Acknowledgement is sent to the honored person or to the family members of the deceased by the Foundation.
In addition to gifts of cash, donors may consider gifts of personal property, equipment, jewelry, real estate, securities, insurance policies and bequests by will. For in-depth estate planning, consult your attorney, accountant or bank trust officer.
Often times, corporations or businesses match funds donated by employees. These programs double or triple the effect of your personal gift. Matching gift forms, sent with your contribution, will be submitted on your behalf. Matching gifts are credited to the donor who initiated the match.
