John joined the LATI ag staff as an instructor in August of 2012. He's been in the ag industry all of his life as he grew up on a farm north of Watertown where he still farms with his brother. After graduating from SDSU with a degree in Ag Business, he worked at Wilbur-Ellis in Summit as a sales/agronomist for five years. John is married to Brittany and has a stepson, Kaden. He enjoys working on his farm, buying and selling farm equipment, old tractors, tractor pulls, camping, and spending time with his family.
Jim has been at LATI since 1982 and is the agriculture department supervisor. Jim received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1979. His career experience includes working for area farmers and raising hogs and sheep. He teaches several of the agronomy classes and does training with GPS. He stays current by being actively involved in the school farm and attending farm tours, extension presentations, and business and industry training sessions.
Justin joined the Lake Area Tech team in August 2014 as an ag instructor. He is a graduate of SDSU's Agricultural Systems Technology program where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. Justin grew up on a multi-generational family farm near Flandreau where they raise 900 acres of corn and soybeans. In his free time, he enjoys working on engines. Whether it's a tractor, race car, or a snowmobile, he is fascinated. Justin started working at a local engine shop at the age of 14 and worked his way through college at an engine shop in Brookings.
Brian joined the LATI staff in 2007 and teaches the animal science and nutrition classes. Prior to that, he served in the Army, worked on railroad bridges, and worked at a local co-op. He is a graduate of both the Ag-Production and Ag-Business programs at LATI. Brian still farms and has livestock.
Bailey joined the Lake Area Tech team in August 2015 as an Agriculture instructor. She recently graduated from South Dakota State University with Bachelor of Science degrees in Ag Education and Ag Communications. Bailey held internships with the South Dakota Department of Education’s CTE division; the South Dakota FFA Association; and Farmer, Lumpe and McClelland (FLM+). She and her fiancé will be married in June 2016. They live in Doland where they raise cattle. Bailey grew up on a diversified farming operation near Raymond. In her free time, she enjoys crafts and DIY projects, camping and boating, traveling, dirt track racing, helping out on the farm, and catching NFL football on Sundays.
Laurie is an instructor in the Agriculture program. Prior to working at LATI, Laurie was an Account Manager for RDO Equipment in Webster, SD. Laurie grew up north of Watertown on a farm and graduated from South Dakota State University with a BS in Agriculture Education. She is married and has a son. In her free time, she enjoys being with family and friends and spending time on her ranch.
Jason is an instructor in the Agriculture Production option. Prior to working at LATI, Jason taught Agriculture Education at Deuel School in Clear Lake, SD. Jason also farms and enjoys working on machines of any type. In his spare time, Jason enjoys spending time with his family.
Kelly graduated from the Lake Area Tech Agri-Business program in 1984. He received a B.S. degree in Ag Economics from SDSU in 1991 and earned his Masters in Economics at SDSU in 2014. Before he began teaching at Lake Area Tech, Kelly worked as an Ag Loan Officer at Deuel County National Bank in Clear Lake, SD, and BANKFIRST in Toronto, SD. He lives in Clear Lake and is a member of the Deuel County Lions and Kiwanis.
Brian graduated from Mankato State University with a major in both Business Management and Marketing. Upon completion, Brian worked at a retail agronomy center in Raymond, Minnesota. After that, Brian spent seven years with Rhone Poulenc Ag Company as a manufacture sales representative. In 1998, Brian went to work for West Central Inc. as a Distributor Sales Representative before coming to LATI in 2007.
Danielle joined the Ag instructor staff in August 2013. She received an AAS degree in Equine Science from Laramie County Community College, where she was a member of the Horse Judging team, Ranch Horse team, Collegiate Horsemans Association and the Block and Bridle Club. She also completed an internship in Colorado. Danielle worked for Barrett's Quarter Horses and Tack for six years where she trained and gentled colts. Dani and her husband live on a hobby farm near Hayti. In her free time, she enjoys training horses, giving lessons, figure skating, scrapbooking, photography, hunting, and fishing.
Alexis joined the Lake Area Tech team in January 2013 as an ag instructor. Previously, she worked in various job settings including MoDak Dairy, Bramble Park Zoo, veterinary hospitals and as an adjunct ag instructor. In her free time, Alexis enjoys training dogs and horses, gardening, and travelling. She is married and resides in Watertown.
Eileen grew up on a farm by Strandburg, SD. She has two children and five grandchildren. She has worked in the Watertown area and at SDSU since 2000 as an accounting assistant. In 2004, she graduated from Lake Area Technical Institute in Financial Services.
Darrel is an instructor in the ag department at Lake Area Tech. Prior to working at LATI, he was an instructor at Grant-Deuel High School for 14 years. Darrel grew up in Revillo and graduated from Grant-Deuel High School and then SDSU. He is married and has two daughters. Darrel enjoys all sports and still plays in a 50-and-over baseball leauge.
