Alexis joined the Lake Area Tech team in January 2013 as an ag instructor. Previously, she worked in various job settings including MoDak Dairy, Bramble Park Zoo, veterinary hospitals and as an adjunct ag instructor. In her free time, Alexis enjoys training dogs and horses, gardening, and travelling. She is married and resides in Watertown.

Alison graduated from Watertown Senior High, continued her education at South Dakota State University in Brookings, interned at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. She completed her Master’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science from the University of North Dakota. Before coming to Lake Area Tech as an MLT instructor, she worked for Memorial Medical Center as a medical technologist and at Prairie Lakes Hospital as a quality assurance analyst. Alison is the department supervisor for the Med Lab Tech program.

Alissa joined the Lake Area Tech team in August 2013. Prior to that, she worked as a care assistant at Prairie Lakes Healthcare System before becoming an RN on the Med-Surg-Peds floor. At PLHS, she was also a PALS instructor. Alissa earned her Bachelor’s Degree in nursing from Presentation College. She and her husband, Mark, live in Watertown and are parents to Kaylee and Mason. In her spare time, she enjoys shopping (especially for shoes!) and spending time with family.

Amanda was born and raised in Watertown. She graduated from Watertown High School in 2002 and worked at Boettcher Window Supply Inc., a family owned business, for four years. In May of 2009, Amanda graduated from LATI with an AAS Degree in Medical Assisting. She enjoys spending time with her family, especially her two children Adrianna and Jonathan.

Amber starting teaching in the Practical Nursing Program in 2011. Her responsibilities include medical surgical clinical and lecturing. She also teaches OB theory and OB clinical at Prairie Lakes Hospital. Prior to working at LATI she worked on the Medical/Surgical/Pediatric unit at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown. Amber is a graduate of Watertown High School and graduated from USD with a BA in Biology. She then received a BS in Nursing from South Dakota State University and a Master’s degree from UND in 2013. Amber is married with a son and daughter. She enjoys music, gardening, and spending time outside.

Amy is a 2002 LATI dental assisting graduate who has worked for area dentists over the last 10 years. She joined the DA staff as an instructor in August of 2012. Amy is married and has two boys: Gavin and Carson. They live on an acreage near Kranzburg and enjoy camping and fishing as a family. In her spare time, Amy loves to cook and experiment with cooking.

Angela is a graduate of Lake Area Tech’s Cosmetology program. She has worked behind the chair since 2002 and was a trainer for newly hired stylists. Prior to joining the Lake Area Tech team full-time, she substituted at LATI for several years. Angela and her husband Shane live in Watertown and they have a daughter and son and two dogs. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, shopping, camping, and being with family and friends.

Annette comes to Lake Area Technical Institute with 20 years of secondary teaching experience. She was a computer instructor at Watertown Senior High School for 16 years before joining our staff. She is originally from Doland, SD. Annette is a graduate of Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. She is a general education computer instructor here.

Asa Stiles

Lake Area Tech welcomed Asa to the team in August of 2016 as a Law Enforcement instructor. Asa is a graduate of Hanston High School in Hanston, KS, and earned an A.A.S. Degree in Elementary Education from Pratt Community College in Pratt, KS. Following that, he completed undergrad and graduate work at Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS, where he obtained his undergrad degree in Justice Studies and a Master’s of Professional Studies with a concentration in Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate of the 182nd Basic Training Class of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center. Asa worked in Law Enforcement at both the municipal and county levels in Kansas and currently serves as a Reserve Officer for the Watertown Police Department. He also worked at Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland, KS, as the Dean of Student Services and worked at Watertown High School in the Alternative Education program. Asa is married to Diane and they have two sons: Henry and Charles, who he loves to spend time with. In his free time, Asa enjoys playing and coaching sports. He says he is a native Kansan, but has fallen in love with South Dakota and looks forward to raising his family here in Watertown.

Audrey Rohde

Audrey works at the LATI Children’s Educare Center in the toddler/preschool room. She graduated from the Child Development program at LATI and began working at the Educare Center when it opened in 1991. Audrey enjoys walking, biking, and gardening. Audrey has one daughter, two stepsons, and four grandchildren: Greyson, Jameson, Easton, and Elliot. Her husband is Pete and they love to travel. They recently vacationed in Hawaii and would love to return.

Bailey joined the Lake Area Tech team in August 2015 as an instructor of the social/behavioral sciences courses. Previously, Bailey was an Independent Career Consultant for the South Dakota Department of Education’s Division of Career and Technical Education; a Family and Consumer Science instructor at West Central; and a graduate research assistant with the Department of Counseling & Human Resource Development at SDSU. Bailey earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Family & Consumer Education in May of 2012 at SDSU. She also attended Vrije Universiteit in the Netherlands through the international student exchange and studied multicultural anthropology and psychology. Bailey then went on to receive a Master of Science degree in Counseling & Human Resource Development, specializing in school counseling in August 2015 from SDSU. She and her husband, Grant, live on a farm/ranch operation near Watertown. In her free time, she enjoys travelling, snow skiing, spending time at the lake, leatherwork, and going to cattle shows/sales with her husband.

Barb provides clerical support for the PTA, OTA, Business Associate, Aviation, and Financial Services programs. She is housed in the busy library where she also assists students with computer issues, printing, and other day-to-day needs. Before coming to Lake Area Tech, Barb and her husband, Jeff, owned and operated two local businesses. They have two grown children and one new grandson, Braylon. Barb grew up in Rapid City and lived in Minnesota and Kentucky before moving back to Watertown. In her free time, she enjoys traveling to visit family and friends and also to experience new places, unique foods, and new ideas.

Bob joined the Lake Area Tech team in August 2014. He is a graduate of Watertown High School and earned a diploma in mechanical drafting from LATI and his A.A.S. degree in EST from Lake Area Tech. He has 13 years experience as a sign frame finisher, 2 years in custom cabinet building, and a year as an R & D technician. He was also a night shift supervisor at Superior Homes. Bob is married and has three children. In his free time, he enjoys woodworking, electronics, riding bike, playing disc golf and spending time with his family.

Bonita is a secretary at Lake Area Technical Institute for Tech Prep, Precision Machining, Welding, Electronics, and Drafting. Bonita has worked for Lake Area since 1997. Bonita attended Office Systems Technology at LATI in 1990. She enjoys working with the instructors and students.

Bonnie works in LATI Food Service. She is a graduate of Sisseton High School and worked at the Drake Motor Inn for 35 years before coming to LATI. Bonnie is married and has a daughter, a son, and four grandchildren.

Brad has been in education for 25 years. He graduated from Black Hills State University in 1986 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education/Mathematics and received his Master’s Degree in Administration from South Dakota State University in 2002. Brad began his teaching career in Arlington, SD. After seven years he moved to Watertown where he has been ever since. He taught for 11 years at the Watertown Middle School and prior to coming to LATI he was an Assistant Principal for the Watertown High School. Brad is married with two children.

Brad joined LATI’s Automotive Technology Department in 1996 as an instructor for basic electrical, heating and air conditioning. In 2009, he became the Automotive Department Supervisor. Brad graduated from AVTI’s Automotive Technology program in Moorhead, MN., in 1983. He is also an ASE certified Master Tech. Prior to his employment with LATI, Brad worked as a technician for a Ford dealership, was owner/operator of Arizona Auto Air & Electric, and was employed by a Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth/Oldsmobile/GMC dealership as a line technician.

Brad graduated from the Physical Therapist Assistant program at LATI in 1997 and began working at the Brookings Center for Physical Therapy in Brookings, SD. While there, he worked in numerous settings including outpatient, acute care, SNF’s and home health. In April 2001, he returned to LATI as an instructor for the Physical Therapist Assisting program. Brad lives in Brookings with his wife and two children.

Brenda, PTA, has instructed in the Physical Therapist Assistant Program since August 1995. She graduated from the College of St. Catherine, St. Mary’s Campus, in 1990. After graduation, Brenda worked at St. Luke’s Midland Regional Medical Center in Aberdeen, South Dakota, until starting at LATI. While in Aberdeen, she worked in numerous areas including acute care, pediatrics, outpatient (including sports medicine), and rehabilitation. Brenda lives in Watertown with her husband and two children.

Brian joined the LATI staff in 2007 and teaches the animal science and nutrition classes. Prior to that, he served in the Army, worked on railroad bridges, and worked at a local co-op. He is a graduate of both the Ag-Production and Ag-Business programs at LATI. Brian still farms and has livestock.

Brian graduated from Lake Area Technical Institute’s welding program. After graduation, he worked for Angus Palm as a welding lead person for 12 years. He started working for Lake Area Tech in January 2008. He also spends a majority of his time instructing and training in the Madison school for their program, where Lake Area Tech supplies an instructor.

Brian graduated from Mankato State University with a major in both Business Management and Marketing. Upon completion, Brian worked at a retail agronomy center in Raymond, Minnesota. Prior to joining LATI in August 2013, she worked on a cardiac progressive care unit in Fargo and in the critical care unit at PLHS in Watertown. She hold certifications in ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and FCCS. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honors Society. Brittany and her husband, John, have two sons, Kaden and Carter. In her free time, she enjoys repurposing furniture and junk, camping, and spending time with her family.

Brittany is a graduate of LATI’s Financial Services program and brings experience as a teller at Great Western Bank and, most recently, as a loan officer at Avanti Federal Credit Union. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Michael, and their daughter, Kinzley. Her interests include shopping, going on walks, and bike rides. Brooks graduated from LATI’s robotics program in 2006 and has been instructor since March 2006. Prior to attending school at LATI, Brooks worked as a MLRS systems repairer, from 1999-present, in the military. Brooks has also worked with Dakota Automation, Daktronics, and Automation Technology. He is currently enlisted in the South Dakota Army National Guard, has an AAS in Robotic, AAS in Electronic Systems Technology, BS in Engineering, and is currently finishing a MS in Information Management-Project Management. He also sits on the ATEA National Board of Trustees, is secretary for the ATEA Region 5 board, and helps with many local and state committees.

Caleb joined the staff at Lake Area Tech in January 2015. He is a 2014 graduate of LATI’s CIS program. Caleb is originally from Ohio and, before coming to Lake Area Tech, he spent time on a harvest crew in South Dakota and eventually moved here. While working towards his current position, Caleb worked for UPS. Prior to that, he held positions at McDonald’s and in the landscaping industry. A self-proclaimed nerd, Caleb enjoys spending time on his computer whether it’s for gaming or studying random interests including space, physics, and science. Caleb is excited to welcome his son, Noah, who is due next month!

Carla is a graduate of Northern State University with a double major in elementary education and special education. She also earned an early childhood special ed endorsement. Her experience includes birth to 6th grade instruction for 10 years and she was an AEL instructor for five years for Black Hills Special Services. Carla and her husband Mark live in Brookings. Together they have seven children, 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

His computer expertise is in the area of media and Visual FX, where he continues to produce content. He is originally from Dickinson, ND. Casey graduated from Dickinson State University with BS Education Degrees in Business and Art as well as minors in Computer Science, Graphic Design, and Marketing. He received his Master’s Degree from Dakota State University in Technology Education. Casey is married with two daughters. He enjoys building trades, outdoors, playing music, and coaching track and field and soccer through the Watertown School District.

Chad is the instructor and department supervisor for the Environmental Technology program. Chad teaches public health protection classes and environmental health protection classes. Prior to joining the team at LATI, he was the director for the Terry Redlin Freshwater Institute in Watertown. Chad grew up in Nebraska and graduated from Dana College in Blair, Nebraska with a BA in Biology. He is married with three sons and enjoys hiking, biking, kayaking, and acting in plays with the local theater company.

Chris, PT, serves as the Program Director for the Physical Therapist Assistant Program. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of North Dakota and a Master of Education degree from the University of Phoenix. Prior to coming to Lake Area Tech, she practiced physical therapy in the areas of acute care, pediatrics, geriatrics, and outpatient services. Chris has a special interest in of women’s health issues, wound care, and orthopedic disorders.

He is a graduate of Watertown High School and has been doing body work most of his life, starting out working part-time at a local body shop while he was in middle school. Cully has worked at many body shops, most recently at the local GM/Toyota dealership where he was employed for 25 years. Cully and his wife enjoy spending time at car shows. He also likes working on fixer-uppers, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and watching or helping with all kinds of car racing.

Dan is a LATI diesel graduate and is from Arlington. He lives southeast of Webster and raises South Dakota Certified beef cattle.

She also completed an internship in Colorado. Danielle worked for Barrett’s Quarter Horses and Tack for six years where she trained and gentled colts. Dani and her husband live on a hobby farm near Hayti. In her free time, she enjoys training horses, giving lessons, figure skating, scrapbooking, photography, hunting, and fishing.

She worked in two salons as a manager and spa attendant and, after attending cosmetology school, worked behind the chair as a cometologist for a year before joining LATI. Elizabeth lives in Watertown with her husband, Kurtys, and their three children. They also have a Great Dane named Minnie. In their spare time, they love to visit friends and family and travel as much as possible.

After receiving her diploma, she went on to earn her Bachelor of Nursing degree from USD in 2014. Prior to that, Liz received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from USD in 2005 and Master of Science degree in Counseling from USD in 2007. She was a counselor at the Waverly/South Shore school for three years before returning to school for nursing. Liz continues to work PRN at Prairie Lakes Hospital where she was a registered nurse on the Med/Surg/Peds floor for one year and a circulating nurse in the operating room for two and a half years. Liz and her husband, Mike, live in Watertown. Mike is an accountant at Vilhauer, Raml and Snyder. They have two children, Devon and Arianna. In her free time, she enjoys reading, exercising, fishing, running, listening to music, and attending her kids’ activities.

Previously, Emily was employed with McGladrey, Inc. for 10 years providing healthcare clients with financial analysis and Medicare cost reporting. She was also employed with Minneapolis Heart Institute as an outreach operations coordinator for three years. Emily and her husband, Mike, live on an acreage east of Watertown near Kranzburg where they raise their daughter, Savannah. In her free time, Emily enjoys spending time with family and friends, gardening, traveling, and shopping.

Gary is a Watertown native who brings 24 years of experience to the precision machining program, where he began as an instructor in August 2014. In addition to working in the precision machining industry, Gary spent eight years working for the Minnesota Prison System in the Drug and Alcohol Treatment program for men exiting prison. He also spent six years as an OTR truck driver and driver trainer. He is a Watertown High School grad and also attended the one-year LATI Machining program in 1977. Gary has two sons who are both married and he also has a grandson. In his free time, he enjoys precision shooting, working on guns, working on cars, and playing disc golf.

After working in industry for a couple of years, she was hired as an instructor in the Robotics/Electronic Systems Technology programs. She was the Department Supervisor for six years and also worked as the Assessment Coordinator for over a year. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Technology Management from Mount Marty College and earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Dakota State University.

Med / Fire Rescue

Greg has been an instructor for the Med/Fire Rescue program since August 2009. After high school, Greg served abroad and state-side in the US Army for nearly 14 years. He is currently a Firefighter/Paramedic for the City of Watertown and has been an EMS since 1996 with 18 years of Fire Rescue experience. In addition to a Paramedic/Firefighter, Greg is also a Structural Collapse Technician, has been an instructor for nine years and is a technician in confined space rescue, trench rescue, high angle rope rescue, and hazardous materials. Greg is also trained to the Specialist level in Highway Emergency response and Rail Tank Cars. Greg and his wife, Kory, have three children and have called Watertown home for the last 11 years. He enjoys spending time with his family, friends and the outdoors hunting, camping, and fishing.

Greg graduated from Lake Area Tech in 1977 with his Airframe and Powerplant certificate and entered the Air Force as an aircraft maintenance technician. While in the Air Force he maintained F-4D Phantoms, Lockheed T-33 Shooting Stars, and F-15A Eagles. He also maintained aero club Cessna 172s and taught an airframe and powerplant course on a part-time basis.

Lake Area Tech welcomed Greg to the Ag Department in August 2016. Greg’s experience on his family farm includes working with his cow/calf operation, seedstock, and feedlot operations. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree from SDSU in Animal Science and a minor in Ag Business. Greg lives on a farm near Ortley with his wife, Lindsey, and daughter, Clara. In his free time, he enjoys being outdoors, hunting, fishing, watching football, working on the farm and riding horse.

Gregg is an instructor for the Med/Fire Rescue program and started in his position in August 2009. He is a 1984 graduate of Watertown High School and a 1989 graduate of LATI. Gregg is currently a captain at Watertown Fire Rescue and has 18 years of Fire Rescue experience. He has technician level experience in confined space, trench rescue, high angle rope rescue, hazmat, hazmat tank car specialist, and fire arson investigation. Gregg and his wife, Becky, have two children.

Jack is a veteran teacher with 35 years experience in teaching communication at the high school and college level in South Dakota. He taught at LATI part-time for 10 years before accepting a full-time position in the fall of 2008. Jack loves teaching and tries to apply his experience in the business world to help LATI grads become effective communicators. Jack loves to hunt, fish, golf, and read. He is also a soccer referee.

She graduated from Mankato State University in 1986 with a degree in Home Economics Education. She served as a group home supervisor, case manager, and most recently as the behavior intervention specialist. She is married and has one daughter.

Jacquie joined the Lake Area Tech team in July 2015 as the educational technology specialist. She is a retired professor and college administrator from the Florida College System and also held positions as the Director of Distance Learning in the Florida Community and Technical College System, an eLearning Specialist for Lake Sumter Community College, and for 35 years she taught English, speech, drama, journalism, biology, chemistry, environmental studies, and technology integration in the K-12 system. Jacquie recently obtained a Master’s of Education and Curriculum Specialist degree from the University of Central Florida in Orlando. She also holds a Master’s of Religious Philosophy and Education degree from Concordia Collge in Seward, Nebraska; and a Bachelor’s of Science Education and Fine Arts degree from Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. In her free time, she loves to travel and has visited every state in the U.S. and all of Mexico and Canada. She has traveled 20 summers in Europe.

Jamison graduated from Lake Area Tech’s welding program in 2001. He then started his career with Angus Palm and was a lead welder for seven years and a trainer for three years. Here, Jamison is an instructor for first-year welding students and teaches gas tungsten arc welding, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, and high quality deposition welding. Jamison is married with two daughters and two grandchildren. Jamison enjoys ice fishing and also keeps busy on his ranch by South Shore raising cattle and hay.

Janelle graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a minor in Alcohol & Drug Studies. Prior to teaching at LATI, she was employed with the LATI Foundation Office and the Human Service Agency for 11 years in Watertown. She worked in the NE Prevention Resource Center working with communities and regional coalitions on alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention activities. She is married to her husband Toby, of 16 years, and they have three children. Janelle enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends.

Jason joined the staff of Lake Area Tech in April 2008 as a Multimedia Programmer/Developer for LATI’s Innovation Center and is a 2005 LATI graduate of the Computer Information Systems program.

Jason is an instructor in the Agriculture Production option. Prior to working at LATI, Jason taught Agriculture Education at Deuel School in Clear Lake, SD. Jason also farms and enjoys working on machines of any type. In his spare time, Jason enjoys spending time with his family.

Lake Area Tech welcomed Jeff York as an Agriculture instructor in January 2017. Jeff is an LATI graduate of the Agriculture program with degrees in the Ag Business and Commodity Merchandising options. He brings experience in small grain farming as well as 20 years of military service in the Air Force. In his free time, Jeff enjoys golfing, motorcycling, and traveling. He lives in Henry.

LATI welcomed Jenna in February 2014 as a bookstore associate. Prior to joining LATI, she worked in the printing industry for 25 years at two local printing businesses. She is a life-long resident of Watertown and is a graduate of Watertown High School. Jenna and her husband, Kevin, have two grown children – both are LATI grads. In her free time, Jenna enjoys browsing flea markets and anything that involves ‘gettin’ crafty!’

Jensi has been an adjunct teacher at LATI since 2006. She also teaches Advanced Placement Biology at Watertown High School. In addition, she coaches cross country and track at WHS. She graduated from SDSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Education and earned her Master’s from DSU in Educational Technology. She enjoys attending her children’s activities, gardening, and running.

Jered joined the Lake Area Tech team as a Diesel/ThinkBIG program instructor in March of 2015. He is a 2005 LATI Diesel program graduate. Previously, Jered worked for a John Deere dealer for seven years specializing in ag tractors. He also has experience working on heavy trucks and equipment. Jered is married to Darci and they have three sons. In his free time, he enjoys boating, fishing, and fixing things with his boys.

Jeremy began his teaching career in the fall of 2009. He was a substitute instructor for the LATI Diesel Technology department for three semesters. He worked as a heavy duty truck mechanic for three years. Jeremy graduated from LATI Diesel Technology in 2001 and is ASE certified in diesel engines and drive trains.

Jessicca manages the Parts Department located in the LATI Automotive Building. She came to LATI in 1997 with four years experience from a local Watertown parts house. Jessicca lives in Watertown with her husband and five children. If Jessicca does happen to come across any free time, you may find her out golfing with her family or just staying around the house.

Jim has been a Welding Technology instructor for Lake Area Tech for the last 13 years and is the current department supervisor. He is a graduate of Washington High School in Sioux Falls. Prior to LATI, Jim was a welder at KW Manufacturing, TEEM Enterprises, Prairie State Equipment, and Hills Stainless Steel. Jim has also been self-employed in welding and manufacturing for eight years.

Jim has been at LATI since 1982 and is the agriculture department supervisor. Jim received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1979. His career experience includes working for area farmers and raising hogs and sheep. He teaches several of the agronomy classes and does training with GPS. He stays current by being actively involved in the school farm and attending farm tours, extension presentations, and business and industry training sessions.

Jo joined the Lake Area Tech team in August 2014. She is a graduate of the University of Central Florida where she earned her Bachelor of Science and Master’s degree in Criminal Justice. She is also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute and the University of Louisville Police Management program. Jo has held many positions in law enforcement including work as an inspector, major, identification technician, field training officer, sergeant, detective, and officer. Prior to LATI, she was the Chief of Police here in Watertown. In her free time, she enjoys reading, walking, biking, flower gardening, and drawing.

Jodi joined the Lake Area Tech team in August 2013. She is a native of Watertown and lives at Lake Kampeska with her husband. They have two children, Lauren and Parker, who are in college. In her free time, she enjoys sailing, boating, traveling, and photography.

Jodi joined the Ag Department at LATI in August 2016 as an instructor. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Marketing and Management from Concordia University in St. Paul, MN, and a Master’s Degree from SDSU in Brookings. Previously, Jodi held positions as a Marketing Professor in the Business Department at Southwest Minnesota State University and as the Director of Marketing at Miller Legal Strategic Planning Centers.  Jodi and her husband, Joe, live and farm/ranch in southwestern Minnesota. They have two grown children. On the farm/ranch, they raise corn, soybeans and are also a part of their son’s purebred Red Angus seedstock operation. In her free time, she enjoys riding and showing cutting horses, playing the guitar, and doing western photography.

Jody and her husband Dean have one son and four grandchildren. John joined the LATI ag staff as an instructor in August of 2012. He’s been in the ag industry all of his life as he grew up on a farm north of Watertown where he still farms with his brother. After graduating from SDSU with a degree in Ag Business, he worked at Wilbur-Ellis in Summit as a sales/agronomist for five years. John is married to Brittany and has a stepson, Kaden. He enjoys working on his farm, buying and selling farm equipment, old tractors, tractor pulls, camping, and spending time with his family.

A 2012 graduate of Lake Area Tech’s Computer Information Systems/Networking program, Jordan joined the staff in June 2014 as an IT Technician. He assists staff and students with computer troubleshooting, installations, projector duties, reimaging laptops and zapping viruses. In his free time, Jordan stays active on his basketball team. He’s a Minnesota Vikings fan and also cheers for other Minnesota sports teams.He enjoys hunting, all sports, and spending time with family and friends. Jordan is a graduate of Grant Deuel High School.

A 2008 graduate of Lake Area Tech’s Diesel Technology program, Josh joined the LATI team in August 2015 as a Heavy Equipment Operator instructor. Previously, Josh was on active duty in the U.S. Army as a track vehicle repairman for four years, a member of the National Guard for nine years, and worked for Butler machinery for eight years as a heavy equipment technician. Josh lives in Watertown and enjoys hunting, weight lifting, small building projects, gun collecting, and target practice.

Julie is a financial aid representative and VA certifying official at LATI. Prior to that, she was with the student accounts staff and an office assistant for the Medical Assisting, Dental Assisting, Building Trades, and Diesel programs. She has been employed with LATI since 2000. Julie graduated from Milbank High School and North Dakota State School of Science. She is married with three children.

Occupational Therapy Assistant

Julie, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA, is the Director for the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology in 1992 from Augustana College and a Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy in 1994 from USD. Since graduating she has held various leadership positions within the South Dakota Occupational Therapy Association’s (SDOTA) organization. The roles have included: fundraising chairperson, secretary, vice president and government relations chairperson. She has served two terms as South Dakota Representative to the American Occupational Therapy Association’s (AOTA) Representative Assembly (RA). In 2008, she was elected by the AOTA RA to the position of Recorder. In 2005 and 2010, the SDOTA honored Kalahar by presenting her and Randy Breske, COTA/L, and Kory Hall, BS, COTA/L respectively, with the OTA/OT Partnership Award for their collaboration in the education of occupational therapy practitioners and their dedication to the organization. Julie was also awarded the 2005 Dorothy Anne Elsberry Award of Merit, which is the highest honor awarded by SDOTA, for her continued dedication and work on behalf of the field of occupational therapy. Currently she is serving the SDOTA as President and AOTA as the OTA Education AdHoc Committee Chairperson. In April of 2014 AOTA will award her with the Roster of Fellows Award for Exemplary Dedication through Service and Leadership. Julie enjoys hunting, gardening, dancing and spending time with her dogs Katie, Scout, Augustana and Gator.

Julie joined the Lake Area Tech team in July 2015 as our new Foundation Director. Prior to this, she held positions as the Public Relations/Marketing Manager for Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center, Foundation Director at Aberdeen Public Schools, Foundation Director at Minnesota West Community & Technical College, and was a Marketing/Community Liaison at Minnesota West. Julie has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Minnesota and an M.A. Ed. from Southwest Minnesota State University. Julie and her husband Eric are originally from Watertown. They have two sons: Drew and his wife Amie live in Portland, Oregon, where they are both CPAs. Blake and his wife Mackenzie live in Sioux Falls. Blake is a Special Ed teacher at Lincoln High School and Mackenzie works with ESL students. In her free time, Julie enjoys volunteering with community organizations, reading, and watching Gopher sports.

Justin joined the Lake Area Tech team in August 2014 as an ag instructor. He is a graduate of SDSU’s Agricultural Systems Technology program where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. Justin grew up on a multi-generational family farm near Flandreau where they raise 900 acres of corn and soybeans. In his free time, he enjoys working on engines. Whether it’s a tractor, race car, or a snowmobile, he is fascinated. Justin started working at a local engine shop at the age of 14 and worked his way through college at an engine shop in Brookings.

Karen is the communications specialist at LATI. Her responsibilities include writing for the website and catalog, preparing news releases, writing social media content, photographing on-campus events, and a variety of other marketing and admissions duties. Prior to joining the staff in May 2012, she was a healthcare marketing manager and before that, a newspaper editor. Karen received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Mass Communications from South Dakota State University in Brookings. Karen and her husband Bret have two children, John and Liz, both LATI grads. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, reading, repurposing, and spending time with family and friends.

Kasey is a Lake Area Tech diesel graduate. Following graduation, he worked for a John Deere dealership in his hometown of Pierre for 10 years before becoming the head mechanic for Anderson Contractors Inc. in Ft. Pierre. Kasey then joined the LATI staff in August 2013. Kasey’s son is enrolled in LATI’s aviation maintenance program and he also has a 14-year old daughter. In his free time, he enjoys repairing anything for family and friends, hunting, fishing, and competition shooting.

Kathy comes to Lake Area Tech with 30 years of experience in the food industry. She is the Kitchen Manager for Market 65 and passionately loves to cook and try new recipes (she even shares her recipes)! In addition to creating new dishes, Kathy takes care of the daily specials, salads, and soups. She and her husband Todd have been married for 14 years and together they own the Casino Speedway. When she’s not working, Kathy enjoys fishing, golfing, and spending time with her family and soon-to-be nine grandchildren.

Kerry and her husband, Alan, live in Watertown where they raise their two daughters, Abigail and Katherine. In her free time, she enjoys spending time at her kids’ activities, shopping, and reading.

Kim is the Dean of Academics at LATI. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education from Northern State University and a Masters Degree in School Administration from Northern State University. Kim taught in both Arlington and the Modern Office Occupations program at LATI prior to spending 17 years as a high school administrator in the Henry, Clark, and Watertown communities. Kim lives in Watertown and has two sons, Casey and Corey.

Koryl, BS, COTA/L, joined the staff in January of 2008, as an instructor and Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program. Kory graduated from the OTA program at LATI in 2001 and graduated from Mount Marty College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Selected Studies in 2005. Kory’s previous employment as an Occupational Therapy Assistant has included Prairie Lakes Hospital, Watertown School District, and Sanford Clinic. Her occupational experiences include: six years of pediatrics, geriatrics, rehabilitation, outpatient/inpatient care and Occupational Medicine. Kory is an active member of the South Dakota Occupational Therapy Association. She grew up in Winner, SD, but has called Watertown home for the last nine years with her husband Greg and their 3 children, Kaylee, Maddie and Gage.

Kris is a graduate of the Medical Assisting Program. She worked in the clinic setting in Watertown for seven years before returning to LATI as an instructor and current department supervisor. In her free time Kris enjoys spending time with her husband and three children.

Kristi is the Director at the LATI Children’s Educare Center. She is a graduate of LATI’s Child Development program and has been employed at LATI Children’s Educare Center since 1991. She works with the toddler age group. Kristi enjoys camping with her husband and son.

Kristina Pearson joined the Lake Area Tech staff in October 2016 as an admissions representative. She is a 2014 graduate of Lake Area Tech’s Dental Assisting program. She brings a wealth of experience to LATI including roles as a clinical coordinator, certified and registered dental assistant, organizer of athletic recruits as Bemidji State University, and as an assistant building materials manager. Kristina is married to Jason and they have two mischievous dogs, she says. She enjoys travelling and has been to six different countries; she also enjoys gardening, photography, cooking, building furniture, and crafting. She lives in Watertown and is originally from Rochester, MN.

Kyle joined the Lake Area Tech team in February 2014 as the simulation lab coordinator. A graduate of LATI’s Med/Fire Rescue program, he is a paramedic/firefighter for Watertown Fire Rescue and a CPR/HAZMAT instructor at LATI. In his free time, Kyle enjoys playing with his son and riding motorcycle.

She is a LATI medical assisting graduate and held lab/clinical positions in Fargo and Watertown before coming to Lake Area Tech. Larin is originally from Watertown and is married. She and her husband have one child. In her free time, she enjoys the lake, relaxing, reading, baking, and spending time with family and friends.

Laurie grew up north of Watertown on a farm and graduated from South Dakota State University with a BS in Agriculture Education. She is married and has a son. In her free time, she enjoys being with family and friends and spending time on her ranch.

Lee joined the LATI team in June 2014 and is currently the Data Specialist. He retired from the US Army as a Colonel after 27+ years of service. He earned his B.A. from the University of Minnesota, his Master’s from the University of Kansas, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the US Army War College in Carlisle, PA. Lee and his wife Anne live in Watertown. They have five children and regularly travel on overseas mission trips.

Lee is the Retention Coordinator and has been with LATI since July 2007. Lee has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of South Dakota, a Masters degree from William Woods University, and has received his Superintendent endorsement from the University of Sioux Falls. Prior to his employment with Lake Area Tech, Lee was a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal and superintendent.

Lake Area Tech’s new barista is Libby Burghardt. Libby began her duties in the Mind Grind in August of 2016. She comes to LATI with experience as a barista at Starbucks and Caribou Coffee. Additionally, she worked as an RA/Med Aide at Stoneybrook Suites. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, shopping, and meeting new people. Libby and her husband Carson have a daughter, Annabelle, and are expecting a son this winter. They live in Watertown.

Lindsey joined the Lake Area Tech Dental Assisting department in August 2016. She has been employed as a general practice dental hygienist for the past six years both in Indiana and South Dakota. While working in general practice, she went back to school to obtain her Bachelor’s Degree to create new opportunities beyond clinical dental hygiene.  She is passionate about oral health and is excited for the opportunity to be a dental educator. Lindsey is married to HPEM instructor Troy. In her free time, she loves to read, travel, be outdoors, and spend time with her husband, family, and friends.

Lloyd joined the Lake Area Tech team in April 2011. He spent his career in the educational system teaching science and coaching football, basketball, and track for Wilmot, Hamlin, and Watertown. Lloyd is a native of Castlewood and an SDSU grad. In his free time, he enjoys golfing and attending athletic events, especially his grandchildren’s. Lloyd is married to Jan and together they have five children and 17 grandchildren.

Lorna joined the staff at LATI in January 2013. She held roles as the TAA Grants Project Officer and Educational Technology Specialist before moving to financial services. Prior to joining the team at Lake Area Tech, Lorna worked as a tech coordinator/computer instructor for the Waverly, Watertown, and Henry school districts. In addition, she has worked for Still Waters, Inc., HR Block, Daktronics, and was a co-owner of Lone Pine BBQ. Lorna graduated from high school in Missouri and received Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration and Business Education from Dakota State University in Madison, SD. In addition, she earned a Master’s degree in Educational Technology w/ Technical Systems Specialization. Lorna is originally from Doland, SD.

LuAnn is the Director of Student Services at LATI. Her responsibilities include marketing, student services, and recruiting. She has been with LATI since 1987 when she began her career as an Admissions Representative. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Dakota. Prior to her employment with Lake Area Tech, LuAnn was a high school counselor.

Marie teaches in the Business Associate program. She has a BA in Business Administration from Mount Marty College and a MBA from Colorado Tech (Sioux Falls). She has worked in management at both the Sioux Falls and Watertown Wal-marts.

Marintan joined the LATI team in April 2012. She completed her education at North Sumatra University of Indonesia and majored in Tourism Management. Previous to her position at Lake Area Tech, Marintan held positions as a food and beverage cashier. She lives in Watertown with her son and enjoys reading and watching movies in her free time.

Mark graduated from the Engineering/Architectural Drafting Program at Lake Area Technical Institute in 1983. After graduation, he was employed by Telelect in Watertown as a mechanical drafts person. Mark has been employed at Lake Area Tech since 1990. His background includes a BAE degree in industrial education and an MSE degree in technical education. While in the Air Force, Mark developed expertise in electronics and avionics and has earned many certifications since including a General Radiotelephone Operator’s License, A+ certification, and Network + certification. He is a Cisco-certified academy instructor and a member of the International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians. Mark taught electronics at the secondary and post-secondary levels for seven years before coming to LATI. Mark teaches classes in Cisco, Network Cabling, and Microcomputer Hardware.In his free time, he enjoys movies and traveling to his home state of New Mexico. He and his wife have two children, Lindsay and Wayne.

Mary teaches Psyc 100 Psychology of Human Relations and Econ 105 online, Leadership in the Global Workplace. After graduating from the LATI Medical Assistant program, she went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities and an MBA from the University of Denver. She has management experience with Pitney Bowes, AT&T, and Lucent Technologies. Mary has owned her own consulting business and has worked in Uganda, South Sudan, East Timor, Rwanda and Afghanistan. She spent four years in Uganda as a United Nations volunteer. She received her 200 hour yoga teacher training certification in New Zealand in 2015 and owns her own yoga business. Previously, he worked for two years as the robot programmer at Dakota Tube in Watertown. Mathew lives by Henry now but is a native of Eureka, SD. In his free time, he enjoys working with his 3D printer.

Megan joined the Lake Area Tech team in July 2013. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and her Master’s Degree in Counseling/Mental Health and Vocational Rehabilitation from SDSU. Prior to LATI, Megan worked for Vocational Rehabilitation and two mental health agencies. She has experience working with adults and children with physical and mental disabilities, and mental illness. Megan is originally from Brookings and enjoys spending time with family, watching the Packers, reading, and being outside in the summer.

Serving almost 30 years as an Air Force officer, Mike is a 1977 graduate of Watertown High School who has been an instructor and administrator for the United States Air Force Academy and Harvard University. Mike has a B.S. in Computer Science from the United States Air Force Academy, a Masters of Science in Numerical Analysis from Purdue University, and was a National Defense Fellow to Harvard University.

Michele joined the staff at LATI in April 2013 as an administrative assistant in the admissions office. Michele lives in Watertown with her family and says her greatest joys are being a mom and a wife. In her free time, she enjoys reading, being outdoors in the sun, and taking care of her flowers.

Michelle joined the Lake Area Tech team in November 2015 as our new online student success coach. Michelle received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Human Services/Human Development and Family Studies degree at South Dakota State University in Brookings. Prior to coming to Lake Area Tech, Michelle was the manager at Buffalo Wild Wings and she was also a foundation intern at the Avera McKennan Foundation in Sioux Falls. She lives outside of Watertown with her husband and they are currently renovating their home. In her free time, she enjoys participating in many different sports as well as watching them. She also likes spending time near the water, boating with family and friends, and wakeboarding.

Michelle brings a wealth of experience to the Educare Center including prior work as a nanny, preschool teacher, daycare provider and work as a paraprofessional. She is a graduate of Watertown High School and the Universtiy of South Dakota with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with an emphasis in early childhood. In her free time, Michelle enjoys spending time with her husband, two daughters, and extended family. She likes to travel, camp, and cheer on her daughters in their activities.

Mike came to LATI as a diesel lab aide in August 2013 and is now a diesel instructor. He is a graduate of Waubay High School and Lake Area Tech. He served in the Army from 1973-1976. His experience includes oil field construction, truck and heavy equipment operator/mechanic, truck mechanic, 21 years as an independent trucker, and he is the owner of K & M Service and Repair. Mike lives in South Shore and is ‘owned’ by a black lab – Gunner, and a chocolate lab – Hunter. In his free time, he enjoys restoring old tractors, growing potatoes, and restoring old pickup trucks.

Mindy is the simulation lab coordinator at LATI. She joined the staff in February 2014. Mindy is a graduate of South Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She has been a registered nurse for more than 13 years – eight years as a nurse at the patient bedside and five years in an instructor role. Mindy lives in Wallace with her husband and four children. She enjoys reading, walking, and hanging out with her family.

Mona is the HLC Liaison at LATI. Formerly, she was an instructor in the Medical Laboratory Technician program for many years and continues to teach the Microbiology course. She attended USD, graduated from Colorado State University with a BS in Microbiology, trained at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, and graduated from the University of North Dakota with a MS in Medical Technology. Prior to coming to Lake Area Tech, Mona worked as a medical technologist at Brown Clinic and Memorial Hospital.

Nicki is the librarian at Lake Area Tech. In addition to her role as librarian, she also teaches gen ed classes and heads the All-Campus Read committee. Nicki joined the LATI team in 2006 after teaching composition for two years and being a journalist for one year. When she’s not at work, Nicki likes to read, write, camp, and fish. She also likes participating in her book club with friends and LATI co-workers. Nicki is married to Jeremy and they have two children, Mia and Brandon. She relocated to the Twin Cities to further advance her career working for both dental companies and dental offices. She has extensive experience in cosmetic dentistry and dental technology, of which she also instructs other dental personnel. In her spare time, Nicole enjoys reading, spending time outdoors (even in the winter!) and laughing with her family and friends.

Patty’s most recent teaching duties include fundamental nursing, basic skills and advanced skills labs, obstetrics lectures and clinicals and leadership and legal/ethical issues. In her spare time, Patty enjoys living in the country with her husband and five children. Patty enjoys horseback riding, watching sports and collecting antiques.

Paul Brandt has been an instructor at Lake Area Tech for 19 years. His education in construction started in the work force and combined time at the USDS to achieve his BSE in education in 1978. Paul has worked in varying jobs including lumberyard management at Lampert Lumber Company and owning his own construction company. His experience is used to educate the different qualities used in the building construction field. Paul has been directly involved with the Student Chapter of Home Builders and Student Chapter of Associated General Contractors. Paul is married, has two married daughters, and is blessed with four grandchildren.

She has worked in a variety of settings, with the last five years in a management position at Mallard Pointe Surgical Center. Rhonda joined Lake Area Technical Institute in October 2004 as a Clinical Practical Nursing Instructor. She recently earned a Master of Science degree in Leadership in Health Care Systems with an education focus from Regis University in Denver. Rhonda is married and has three children. Any spare time is spent at her children’s sports events, taking care of her two dogs, and helping her husband run his business.

Robyn joined the LATI practical nursing instructor staff in August of 2012. Prior to that, she taught nursing care clinicals for LATI and SDSU. She also worked as an emergency room nurse at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown and holds ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications. Her education includes a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Presentation College in Aberdeen and she’s currently completing a master’s degree in nursing education from Kaplan University. Robyn and her husband Terry have two daughters: Summer and Lennix. She enjoys traveling, running, and family time. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International and Alpha Beta Kappa Honors Society.

After nearly 27 years serving with the SD National Guard, with a majority of this time in logistics and operations management, Roger retired from active guard service in May 1999. For the past 10 years, he worked in operations management for a local telecommunications construction company. He is a graduate of Watertown High School and holds a B.S. in Business Administration – Project Management degree from Colorado Technical University. Roger joined the LATI staff in August of 2009 and is the department chair and instructor of the Energy Operations program.

Ron joined the LATI team in November 2013. He is a graduate of Bradley High School and Lake Area Tech. Ron owned and operated a salon in Henry for more than 30 years. In addition, he was in the custodial field for nearly 30 years at Henry School. Ron and his wife, Linda, have three children: Nick and his wife Heather, who have two children: Trenton and Cierra; Nathan, who has two sons: Cooper and Skylar; and Cassandra and her husband Bryan, who have a daughter: Brooklynn. Rosemary graduated from Watertown Business University. Originally from Castlewood, she moved to Watertown in 1970. She worked at Production Credit Association for 12 years, then decided to become a full time homemaker and raise her two daughters. In January 2003, Rosemary joined the Cosmetology staff as receptionist. Her husband, Roger, farms west of Watertown. Rosemary’s hobbies include reading, long walks, and watching her daughters’ softball games.

Sarah joined the Lake Area Tech team as an adjunct psychology instructor in January 2014 and began full time here as a psychology instructor and counselor in August 2015. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, and received her Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Bethel University in St. Paul. She has worked in multiple counseling settings including a college counseling center, a community-based program, and a private outpatient counseling facility. Sarah enjoys working with young adults, helping them grow in knowledge and understanding of themselves and others. She is excited to teach and further the study of psychology as it is related to a multitude of professions. Sarah lives in Watertown and enjoys playing piano, biking, singing, sewing, and decorating.

Before coming to LATI, Scott held positions as a diesel technician, carpenter, farmer, and SDDOT maintenance technician. He is a graduate of NDSSS in Diesel Technology. Scott is married to his wife of 28 years, Brenda. They have two daughters and two grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and farming. He and Brenda live on a farm near Peever.

Scott graduated from O’Gorman High in 1982. He earned his degree in biology at Augustana College and played college football for the Vikings. He finished his master’s degree in the spring of 2011 from the University of Sioux Falls. Scott was a biology instructor and assistant football coach at O’Gorman for 16 years. He was a science instructor at Watertown High School for seven years and was the head football coach as well as an assistant track coach for the Watertown Arrows. Scott enjoys hunting, fishing, riding his Indian motorcycle, and wood carving.

Shane has three children Keslar, Kutler, Kinzley and his wife, Denise, is a teacher at Jefferson elementary. His personal interests include hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Stephanie joined the Lake Area Tech team in August of 2016 as an English instructor. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Augustana College and Master of Arts Degree in English at USD. Her experience includes working as an English tutor in Grenoble, France. Before going back to school for her Master’s, she worked in Phoenix, AZ, as a Finance and Accounting Recruiter. She has tutored students in ACT prep, LSAT prep, study skills, and reading skills. Stephanie taught English Composition and Introduction to Literature at USD for two years while completing her Master’s. She said it’s no surprise that she loves to read and write in her free time and she also enjoys travelling, going to museums, trying new foods, and hanging out with friends, family, and her dog, Bruce.

After graduating in 1981 from Watertown High School, Steve served full-time for the SD National Guard in Watertown as a Career Counselor retiring in July 1999. He spent five years as a financial services representative for Farmers Insurance Group before partnering to build and open a local camper dealership. Steve joined LATI as the Corporate Education Coordinator in August 2009 and enjoys assisting business and industries meet their training needs.

The Heavy Equipment Operator program welcomed back Steve Henningsgaard in January 2017 as an instructor. Steve is a familiar face as he taught in the program in its first couple of years. He brings a wealth of experience to the program with 25 years as a heavy equipment operator and foreman. He also has experience with GPS. Steve has been married to his wife, Carla, for 32 years and they have eight children and three (soon to be four) grandchildren. He has lived in Canby, MN, all of his life and enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, and traveling.

Steve has worked with the local Ford dealership as their certified Ford technician since 1975 in addition to owning his business. Terri has a BA degree in Mathematics Education and Computer Science from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN, and a MS degree in Computer Education and Technology from Dakota State University in Madison, SD. Terri began her teaching career in South Dakota with the Todd County School District on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in Mission, SD, where she taught high school Mathematics and Computer Science for three years and then was the district Technology Coordinator for four years. She spent seven years as the Technology Coordinator for the De Smet School District. Terri was awarded the TIE Technology Leadership Award in 1997 and the South Dakota Distance Learning Local Leadership Award in 2004 for her work with the Cisco Networking Academy Blended Distance Learning Program. She currently holds the following industry certifications: Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW), A+, Network+, and iNet+. She is also a certified Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. Terri joined the CIS staff in the Fall of 2005 and is now the department supervisor.

Terri joined the Lake Area Tech staff in February 2012 as the TAA Grants Manager. Before joining LATI, Terri was a Project Director for the Title II Part A Grant, School Improvement Specialist at Northeast Educational Services Coop, and a Program Representative with the SD Department of Education. She is a graduate of Hamlin High School, Huron University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, and SDSU with a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Terri lives in Clark and enjoys gardening, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Terry is a 1983 graduate of Watertown High School and a 1993 graduate of LATI’s Engineering/Architectural Drafting program. Prior to joining the Lake Area Tech team, he worked for the SD Department of Transportation and Aason Engineering in Watertown as a civil engineering technician. Terry also worked at Lauen’s Hot Rods in Watertown as a fabricator and body man. He began his career in 2002 as an instructor in the Eng/Arch Drafting department. In 2011, he began teaching general education courses, and in 2012, he began teaching in the Custom Paint & Fab department. Terry and his wife have three sons. In his free time, he enjoys restoring old cars and attending car and motorcycle shows.

Terry is a LATI automotive technology graduate and joined the staff as an instructor in August 2013. Before coming to Lake Area Tech, he was an automotive line tech team leader and spent 10 years in the industry in both a dealership and independent automotive service. He served on safety and customer satisfaction committees for the dealership and also lead and organized daily job tasks for teams of automotive technicians. Terry is currently working towards a Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Science. In his free time, he enjoys working out, riding his motorcycle, and experiencing new things such as different cultures and places.

Thor graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1993 and from the Automotive Technology program at Lake Area Tech in 1996 with T-Tenr training. He has worked for General Motors and Toyota dealers as a general line tech. At LATI, Thor teaches first-year classes including Brakes; Steering, Suspension, & Alignment; and Drive Axles. And, for the first time this year, he’s teaching online auto classes for students at Madison High School. Thor is master-certified through ASE and Toyota. In his free time, he enjoys hunting and fishing – everything and everywhere! He joined the Lake Area Tech staff in 2010.

Tim graduated from Watertown High School in 1974 and from LATI in 1976. After graduation, he worked at Burghardt Amateur Center in Watertown repairing amateur and commercial radio equipment for 24 years. He started teaching Electronics and Computer Hardware for the Lake Area Multi-District in 2000 and remained there until 2008 when he started in LATI’s Electronics program. He is A+ Certified in computer repair, certified in network copper cabling and fiber optics and has a FCC First Class Radio Telephone License.

Tina enjoys working in the fast-paced and exciting Admissions and Marketing departments at Lake Area Tech. She has been employed with LATI since 1992. Tina is a graduate of Brookings High and Lake Area Tech.

Todd graduated from high school in Minneota, MN, and is the department supervisor for CPF. After attending the Ridgewater College Auto Body program, he gained experience working in both collision and speciality shops. Prior to coming to LATI, Todd owned an auto body business with his father for 23 years. He is married to a Watertown girl and has two sons. Todd and his sons are custom car and Harley Davidson Motorcycle buffs and enjoy Nascar and drag racing.

Tom is an instructor of several classes in the Business Associate program at LATI and is also the BSA department supervisor. A graduate of Watertown High School, Tom went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Relations and Marketing from North Dakota State University. Prior to working at LATI, Tom traveled the country as the exhibit manager for the Bodies Human exhibition. In Tom’s free time he can be found on the golf course, playing guitar, or enjoying the outdoors.

Aviation Maintenance Technology

Tony was introduced to flying by his uncle in Graceville, MN, where he grew up and helped on his father’s farm. With a knack for being mechanical and loving the wind in his face, an ultra light was purchased and “tested to its limits” for years to come. After high school, Tony attended and graduated from Wilmar Votech studying and working in diesel mechanics until he discovered his true passion, aviation. It was then that he attended Lake Area Tech from 1987 to 1989 studying airframe and power-plant and graduating with the D. D. Miller award. Immediately after graduation, Tony was employed by Island Airways out of Charlevoix, MI, which served as an air taxi and charter company for Beaver Island and the surrounding areas in northern Michigan. Tony was the Director of Maintenance and serviced a fleet of four Britten Norman Islanders, Cessna and Piper Aircraft. During Tony’s time with Island Airways, he was also instrumental in arranging a fly-in from the “Yankee Lady,” a B-17G WWII bomber, which opened eyes and educated people to a touch of aviation from our past. Until recently moving to South Dakota with his wife, Tony also enjoyed servicing aircraft in his surrounding communities and was an active member in the local flying club.

Trey began teaching at Lake Area Tech in January 2015 as an instructor in the Computer Information Systems department. He obtained his degree in Cyber Operations from Dakota State University.

Med / Fire Rescue

Troy is the department supervisor and instructor for the Med/Fire Rescue program. Along with his teaching duties, Troy is also a lieutenant at the Watertown Fire Department where he serves as a firefighter, paramedic, and member of the hazardous materials team. Following graduation from Watertown High School and an enlistment in the U.S. Army, Troy graduated from the University of Minnesota at Mankato with a BS in Environmental Science and Geography. Prior to his arrival at LATI, he was an Environmental Scientist for a local consulting firm.

High Performance Engine Machining

Troy is a graduate of Lake Area Tech’s Precision Machining program. He joined the staff in January 2013 as an instructor for the new High Performance Engine Machining program. Previously, Troy worked as an engine machinist at CNC Motorsports and at Johnson Machine. In his free time, he enjoys dirt track racing and snow/water skiing. Troy grew up in Pierre.

Waylon has been a Lake Area Tech employee since December of 1999. Currently, he works the night shift in the Ag building where he cleans and performs maintenance duties. Waylon is an avid NASCAR fan and cheers on Dale Jr. He’s been to NASCAR races in Kansas City and is looking forward to attending one in Richmond this fall. He also enjoys summer fishing, riding his Harley Street Glide, learning more about his newest hobby – photography, and spoiling his nephew, Carter.

The Diesel Tech Department welcomed William in August 2016 as an instructor. He earned his degree in Diesel Technology from NDSCS in Wahpeton, ND. William has 15 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic for Butler Machinery Company in Sioux Falls where he worked on all heavy equipment and spec shop areas, then two years’ experience as a farm mechanic for a goose farm by Sisseton. William lives in Sisseton with his wife, Jennifer, and two kids: Mary and Jackson. In his free time, he enjoys hanging out with his family, taking his son to his father’s farm, and helping out there when needed.

Zachary Drees joined the Lake Area Tech family in October 2016 as an IT Technician. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems at Northern State University. While attending NSU, he worked in the Technology Department. After graduating, he moved to Watertown to work at a-i Computer Solutions. In his free time, Zachary enjoys golfing, hunting, skating/hockey, and video games from time to time.
